Lydia C. Kalthoff, 103, formerly of Decatur, died at 3 a.m. on Sunday in The Village of Heritage nursing home at Monroeville.
She was married to Ernest H. Kalthoff, who is deceased.
The good news for the Bellmont boys cross country team is that they managed to score well enough to advance from the IHSAA cross country sectional they hosted Tuesday night to the regional at Marion this Saturday.
The Braves ended up fifth out of 11 teams (the top five advance to the regional) with 127 points despite the fact Bellmont senior Evan Boucher ran a 16:53.63 race that was good for third place out of 75 runners on the day.
Bellmont continued its tradition of advancing its girls cross country team out of the sectional and into IHSAA regional action Tuesday evening with the Squaws placing fourth to move on to regional action Saturday morning at Marion on the Indiana Wesleyan University course.
A committee has been assembled at North Adams Community Schools to study and review the school district's current use of buildings and grounds, with the goal of returning recommendations a year from now that will guide school leaders in making long-term decisions regarding housing students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
As the latest Adams Central improvement project moves toward completion next month ahead of schedule, AC Superintendent Mike Pettibone told the school board at its Tuesday-night session that the plans contain plenty of classroom space.
Pettibone said he chose to speak out because of rumors in the district that the project would leave the school with an insufficient number of classrooms.
Driver's education will continue to be offered at South Adams Schools — at least for the current school year — according to Superintendent Scott Litwiller at a board of education meeting on Tuesday.
Frederick H. Blazer, 96, of Decatur, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center.
Fred was born on May 14, 1915, in Fort Wayne to Frederick E. and Lena M. (Harshman) Blazer.
On January 6, 1968, he married Ruby V. (Ladd) Rambo.
Fred worked for American Hoist and also worked as a janitor for North Adams Community Schools.
MaryAnn (Fulton) Holthouse, 89, of Decatur, died on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
MaryAnn was born on October 2, 1922, in Wells County to Thomas and Goldine (Gossard) Nash.
MaryAnn married her first husband, Oral E. Fulton, on October 26, 1939; he preceded her in death on May 24, 1982. She then married Robert J. Holthouse on July 7, 1990; he preceded her in death on December 26, 2001.
MaryAnn moved to Decatur in 1947 from Wells County.
Robert R. Malone, 86, of Decatur, died on Wednesday at home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur.
Kevin W. Steffen, 52, of Bluffton, died Wednesday in Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Among survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Derek (Andrea) Graham of Bluffton, and two sons, Joshua Eltzroth of Ohio and Tyson Terhune of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Goodwin Memorial Chapel at Bluffton, with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery at Bluffton. Visiting hours are 2-8 p.m. Friday.
