Harvey's finish earns her All-State honors

    The "perfect race at the perfect time" earned Bellmont sophomore Alexis Harvey All-State status in girls track, it was noted today by Bellmont's veteran track coach Carl Risch.
    Harvey sped to fourth place at last Saturday's 200 meter final at the IHSAA Girls State Track and Field Meet held at the IU Track Complex in Bloomington..
    Not only did Harvey gain a lot of respect, the fourth place earned her first team All-State status in her event, noted Risch.

Lifers take Peterson in showdown

    The Farm Bureau Lifers clipped Peterson Grain 4-3 in a battle of once-beatens in the Monroe Little League Tuesday night.
    The win puts the Lifers on top in the league at 8-1 to the 7-2 mark of Peterson Grain.

Cops on a cart? May happen in Geneva

    Police officers patrol on bicycles, motorcycles, segways and horses, so why not on a golf cart?
    Geneva Marshall Rob Johnson suggested the idea to council members at Tuesday's meeting, noting, "I have received a lot of positive feedback from the community." Council members also supported the idea of police officers using a golf cart.

‘Lot of activity’ coming up

    As the work on 13th St. is winding down, other projects are rapidly approaching and, according to what Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its meeting Tuesday night, "We're going to be seeing a lot of activity pretty soon."
    Right after the Fourth of July, LICA Construction Corp. of Berne and Portland will begin a major milling and resurfacing of US 224 from Front St. (by the Chamber of Commerce office) to the Ohio line. The project is expected to be completed in late August.

Combs named first team All-ACAC

    Adams Central sophomore outfielder Dalton Combs, who led the Jets in 11 offensive categories this year, was named first team All-ACAC in baseball today by the conference coaches.
    Teammates Nathan Busse and Cody Brunner, infielders, both seniors, were given second-team status.
    Taylor Smith and Taylor LeFever of South Adams were also named to the first team.
    Combs paced the Jets with a .482 batting average and led the team in hits with 37, runs with 29 and home runs with three.

Dirty Birds blast way to sweep

    Dirty Birds picked up two wins on Sunday in the Fort Wayne Red Carrington league play, downing the Fort Wayne Orioles 5-1 in the first game Sunday before totally destroying the Orioles 19-2 in the nightcap, in Stan Musial AABC action.

More savings are unveiled for the county

    Last week, it was the sheriff's department saving Adams County more than $20,000 in mistakenly-double-billed telephone charges.
    This week, it's Community Corrections (CC) saving the county between $24,000 and almost $48,000 due to the community service work program.

ACentral, Bellmont class leaders are announced

    A pair of cousins and best friends saw their identical 12.491 grade-point averages on Adams Central High School's 12-point scale have them announced on Sunday as co-valedictorians.
    Shelby Aschliman and Lena Kaehr also have the same college plans: get accounting degrees and become certified public accountants.
    The 2011 AC salutatorian is Mia Engle, with a 12.01 GPA.

    June S. Hough, 70, of Big Turkey Lake, rural LaGrange, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at her residence.
    She was born on Friday, May 30, 1941, in Portland to Donald Salmon Jr. and Helen Crawmer Pyle, who are deceased.
    June attended First Christian Church in Albany, Indiana, and New Corydon Grade School and Bryant High School.
