Adams County's unemployment rate fell to it's lowest level in six months during March, according to figures released Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The county's jobless rate last month was 8.0 percent, down from an 8.3 percent reading in February and 8.5 percent unemployment levels in both January of this year and December of 2011. One year earlier, in March of 2011, Adams County's unemployment rate was 8.2 percent.
Herbert M. Miller, 86, of Chattanooga, Ohio, died on Saturday at Lutheran Hospital.
Among survivors are his wife, Florence Schumm; and a brother, Carl Laverne (Martha) Miller of Monroe.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home in Rockford, and one hour prior to services at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ruth Mae (McClure) Rupp, 94, a resident of Woodcrest Nursing Center for the past nine and a half years, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012.
She was born in Van Wert County, Ohio, on August 8, 1917, to the late William H. and Ada L. (Moser) McClure. She married Mervin C. Rupp on August 31, 1941; he preceded her in death on December 5, 1997.
Larry David Starlin, 69, of Marion, died Thursday in the VA Health Care Center, Marion.
Arrangements are pending at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva.
HUNTINGTON—The Bellmont varsity baseball team administered the first loss of the season to the Huntington North Vikings, a team ranked third in the state in class 4A, on Saturday with a 3-1 triumph in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader.
CHURUBUSCO—In a meet that featured several of the top female track athletes in the state this year, Bellmont's Alexis Harvey solidly established herself among that group as she won three individual events and was also on the winning 4 x 400 relay team for the Squaws Saturday at the Turtle Town Invitational at Churubusco High School.
Jane C. Aspy, 77, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, at Visiting Nurses and Hospice Home, in Fort Wayne.
Jane was born on February 20, 1935, in Adams County, to the late Joseph and Florence (Bremerkamp) Laurent.
On September 6, 1958 she married Ronald D. Aspy.
Jane was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She retired as an administrator of Woodcrest Nursing Home.
Evelyn Corinne Yaney, 105, of North Manchester, Indiana, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, in North Manchester.
She was born March 3, 1907, in Charleston, Illinois, to the late Harry Samuel and Cora D. (Railing) Miller.
On November 16, 1936, she married George W. Yaney; he preceded her in death on December 19, 1993.
North Adams Community Schools is among 28 Indiana school corporations that will share $6 million in grant funding awarded to recognize and award the state's best teachers.
The Decatur Police Department has 29 applicants for its single opening and the city's fire department has slightly less than 20 for its post. The numbers were passed on to city council at its meeting this week.
Police Chief Ken Ketzler said aptitude and agility tests are scheduled for the 29 and the field eventually will be winnowed to six candidate to present to the city Board of Works and Safety.
