BERNE— For the first time in a span of about a season and a half, 24 games to be exact, the Lady Starfires of South Adams won a basketball game, and they did it in dominating fashion over the Muncie Burris Lady Owls, 56-39.
Coach Ryan Cunningham, now 1-5, paced the sidelines for most of the game grumbling about the turnovers in the game, and with good reason. His team had 32 of them.
The good news for SA was that Burris had 47.
An almost $12 million bond issue was authorized by the East Allen County Schools Board on Tuesday to create a single-school campus at what is now Heritage Junior-Senior High School.
The school, located between Hoagland and Monroeville, would house students from kindergarten to 12th grade.
The plan is to pay off the bond issue in less than 20 years. It was announced that a typical owner of a $100,000 home would have a $8.84 property tax increase per year.
A football signed by Anthony Gonzales, a receiver for the Indianapolis Colts and a former star for the Ohio State Buckeyes, is among items to be sold at the 37th Adams County Sheriff's Reserves Auction this Saturday.
The event will be held at the Krueckeberg Auction site on Adams St. in Decatur, starting at 9 a.m.

The Monroe Town Council wanted to take action on a proposed water rate increase at Thursday night's meeting, but could not do so because a legal advertisement which town officials had published was incomplete.
A more detailed legal ad will be printed soon in local newspapers and the council will hold a public hearing on the proposed water rate hike and vote on it in a special session at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 19, in Town Hall.
Eunice Suman, 65, of Fairland, Indiana, a native of Berne, died on Thursday in Greenwood, Indiana.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.
Clara L. Scherer, 91, of Decatur, died at 9 a.m. Thursday in The Village of Heritage Nursing Home at Monroeville.
She was born on March 19, 1920,m in Wells County to Karl and Anna Werling Nahrwold.
She married Lloyd Scherer on April 10, 1948, in Fort Wayne; he passed away on February 4, 1985.
Clara was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church (Fuelling), rural Decatur.
Betty Jane Miller, 83, of Berne, formerly of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Chalet Village in Berne.
Betty was born on December 30, 1927, in Shoon, Kentucky, and was the daughter of Ammi and Urcel (Roudenbush) Miller.
On March 1, 1957, she married Homer L. Miller. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2001.
Betty was a member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, rural Decatur, and the United Methodist Women.
Merle L. Drake, 90, of Decatur, died on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Merle was born on August 18, 1921, in Peebles, Ohio to Willie G. and Lillie (Tolle) Shelton.
On August 23, 1939, she married Clyde E. Drake. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2009.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.
In a special meeting of the Geneva Town Council on Wednesday, sealed bids for the town's wastewater improvement project were opened and then taken under advisement.
The project is made possible through a $600,000 Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) grant that was awarded to the town in May. The grant requires the town to match $200,000, bringing the project total, which includes the preliminary engineering report, to more than $800,000.
A request by an Ossian man, charged with murdering a neighbor boy last July, to have his case moved outside of Wells County has been turned down by Wells Circuit Court Judge Kent Kiracofe.
The judge ruled that there has not been excessive publicity about the case and that an impartial jury could be selected at a trial.
Bruce Pond is accused of firing a gun toward a light on a dock on a pond at night on July 22. The shot killed four-year-old Jacob Michuda, who was fishing with his father.
