Sarah E. Cearns, 76, of Willshire, Ohio, completed the race when she passed through heaven’s gates at 12:41 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital.
There was “a great cloud of witnesses” present as Sarah’s family and friends observed her finish in Christ’s arms.
Norman E. "Pappy" Scheumann, 86, of Preble, passed away at 2:37 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on Monday, February 15, 1926, in Wells County, to the late Henry and Edna (Buuck) Scheumann.
Norman married Wilda Bradtmueller on May 19, 1951; she survives, in Preble.
The 2012 City of Decatur Golf Tournament made a successful run this weekend at Cross Creek Golf Course in a two-round format on Saturday and Sunday.
Dr. Mike Ainsworth posted his first win in come-from behind fashion after hitting a 74 in his first round, then shooting a stellar 68 for the second round to win with a -2 142 for the weekend. At even par ending up with a 144 for the tournament was Luke Ainsworth recording a 73 and a 71 respectively for his two rounds.
It's budget time again for area governments and Monroe's proposed budget for 2013 was revealed at Thursday night's town council meeting.
The overall proposed budget for 2013 is $391,900. That's up $7,030 from the 2012 budget, according to official documents.
Council President Al Lehman said most areas saw an increase in expenses from last year. The biggest increase came in the Motor Vehicle Highway fund, which jumped $5,180 from last year's budget.
Adams County Clerk Gayla Reinhart has announced that those interested in becoming a candidate for any of the three public school boards in Adams County has until noon on August 24.
Forms are available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., at the clerk’s office in the courthouse.
For the first time, North Adams patrons will have the opportunity to vote for school board members.
Four members will be elected to the North Adams board during November's general election.
A reception was held Thursday afternoon at Bellmont High School for Kim Harsh, hired earlier this week as the school's new principal.
Harsh, second from left in accompanying photo, is seen with Superintendent Wylie Sirk as she meets two representatives from Ivy Tech Community College.
Harsh comes to Bellmont after spending the past 13 years as a teacher, assistant principal and principal at Hauser Junior-Senior High school near Columbus, Indiana.
Nina M. Whitaker, 91, of Berne, formerly of Indianapolis, died Thursday.
Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne.
BRAVES TAKE MONROE—The Decatur Braves 14U all-star team finished the season by playing in the Brickhouse Monroe Tournament from July 26-29th. The Braves won their pool games by defeating the Portland team with a score of 36-2, then beat the Monroe Harvestland team, 7-1. In the semis, Monroe's Crushers got beat by Portland & the Braves defeated Harvestland once again, this time, 3-2. Bellmont finished their title run with a win in the championship game beating Portland, 12-0.
The dispatch center at the Decatur police station on Third St. was officially closed down on Wednesday.
Now, calls to the police department's telephone number, 724-3123, will be answered by an electronic operator, and the caller will be asked to hang up and call 911 if it is an emergency or to call 724-5345 for all other calls. The call to 724-5345 will be answered by someone in the communications center in the Adams County Jail
The Adams County Highway Department finished applying chip-n-seal to county roads last week, according to Superintendent Mark Mitchel.
Mitchel told the Adams County Commissioners Monday the department covered approximately 83 miles of roadway this year.
"That's the most we've done in a long time," said Mitchel. "Some of those roads haven't been done for nine or ten years."
