Decatur Mayor John Schultz apparently is making progress on forming a sister-city relationship with a Chinese community.
Schultz and Adams County Economic Development Director Larry Macklin are part of a group on a trade mission to China led by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman.
On her blog, Skillman wrote the following:
Not only are insurance costs rising, but in some cases coverage is becoming difficult for North Adams Community Schools to obtain at all.
That was the message delivered to the North Adams school board on Tuesday by Business Manager Larry Carty, who reported that recent workers' compensation claims have risen "to the point where no one wants to insure us any more."
The Adams Central Board of Education made several personnel decisions Tuesday evening including hiring two new teachers, naming lead teachers for the 2012-13 school year, a maternity leave request, and a resignation.
After interviewing several teachers for the position of middle school title English teacher, AC Middle School Principal Aaron McClure and ACCS Title One Coordinator Anna Spalding recommended the school board hire Lana Shoaf.
Ruth A. Gage, 73, of Decatur, died at her residence on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
Ruth was born in Adams County on October 20, 1938, to the late Alfred and Rose (Faurote) Rauch.
On May 31, 1958, she married Theodore W. “Ted” Gage; he preceded her in death on April 7, 2006.
Holly B. Gerber, 67, of Bluffton, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at her residence.
She was born in Chicago on December 5, 1944, to the late G. Ralph and Dorothy (Rhoades) Martin.
On June 30, 1990, she married Cary J. Gerber in Bluffton; he survives.
Holly was a homemaker and a 1963 graduate of Morton High School.
Irene L. Gresley, 91, of Monroeville, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the Village of Heritage.
She was born July 29, 1920, in Allen County, to the late Martin F. and Ida L. (Boerger) Fuelling.
On July 12, 1946, she married Emmet M. Gresley in St. Peter Lutheran Church; he passed away November 11, 1994.
Irene was a homemaker and a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Chase Ellsworth ended his sophomore year of golf for Bellmont yesterday at the Legends Golf Course in Franklin where the Indiana state tournament finished its second and final round of play.
Betty A. Peck, 76, of Woodburn, passed away at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, in the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne after having been ill since March.
Betty was born on Tuesday, June 9, 1936, in Elizabeth, Indiana, the daughter of the late Lyle L. Liebert and Anna (McCollum) Liebert.
She married Wayne R. Peck on April 6, 1962, in St. Paul Lutheran Church-Gar Creek; he passed away on May 24, 2000.
