Community service to begin at 1

    The Decatur Ministers Association announced on Tuesday afternoon that a community Good Friday service will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of God, 1129 Mercer, Ave., in Decatur.
    The service is open to the public.

Donna Y. Lloyd

April 5, 2012

    Donna Y. Lloyd, 75, of Berne, formerly of Geneva, died Wednesday in Adams  Memorial Hospital. 
    Among survivors are her son, John B. (Rose) Lloyd of Berne; and daughter, Theresa Vance of Bryant.
    A memorial service will be held at a later date .
    Arrangements were made by Walker and Glancy Funeral Home, Montpelier. 

Carole A. Waltmire

    Carole A. Waltmire, 71, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    She was born on Tuesday, June 18, 1940, in Monroeville, the daughter of the late Olen A. and Ruth M. (Johnson) Murchland.
    She married Russell E. Waltmire on August 9, 1958, in Monroeville; he survives.
    Carole retired in 1984 from Central Soya.

One NA candidate out of running

    Then there were two.
    Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday night's city council meeting that Ada Steiner, one of three candidate for the city-appointed seat on the North Adams School Board, has been disqualified as it was learned she does not reside in the city.
    The person to be appointed by council must live within Decatur's city limits.
    So that leaves two candidates: Ben Faurote, who currently holds the seat, and Stacey Bussel.

City ‘keep-it-clean’ campaign returning

    The city's 175th anniversary celebration now is a sweet piece of memory, but the citywide cleanup that went along with it will be continued this year and in the future, it was learned at Tuesday night's city council meeting.
    And a dispute has already arisen.

Geneva eyes own seat-belt law

    The town of Geneva is looking into a seatbelt ordinance that would generate more money for the town.
    At Tuesday's meeting of the Geneva Town Council, Marshall Rob Johnson said that as it currently stands, when a town police officer issues a $25 ticket to a driver for violating the seatbelt law under the state ordinance, "$21 goes to the state and $4 goes to the town."

    Pauline Jones, 68, of Van Wert, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April, 3, 2012, at 6:14 a.m., at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center, in Van Wert.
    Pauline was born on September 25, 1943, in Decatur, to the late Clarence Clyde and Ada Nora (Flueckiger) Jones.

William Harold Miller

    William Harold Miller, 53, of Geneva, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at 11:44 a.m., at Lutheran Hospital.
    William was born in Richmond, on February 6, 1959, to William "Bill" R. Miller and the late Helen D. (Wilson) Miller.
    He married Joann (Lane) Miller on March 21, 1981, in Geneva; she survives.
    A 1977 graduate of Bluffton High School, William worked for Nesco Truck Sales in the cleanup and truck delivery departments, and was a truck driver for many years.

Carole A. Waltmire

    Carole A. Waltmire, 71, of Decatur, died at 4:29 p.m. Tuesday in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Arrangements are pending at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.

Jets outran at Eastbrook

    The Adams Central track squads traveled to Eastbrook High School to take on the Panthers and came up short on both the girls' and boys' scores.
    The girls competition was closer than the guys with AC falling, 73-53, while the boys fell, 101-31.
