Marlene Wilson

January 18, 2012

    Marlene Wilson, 73, of Homosassa, Fla., formerly of Decatur, passed away January 13, 2012, at the Hospice House of Citrus County, Fla., with her loving husband Jim by her side.
    She was born on May 20,1938, in Adams County.
    She retired from Azar's Inc. after serving 28 years in the food and beverage service business at the Back Forty Restaurant.
    She was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and took several courses at Vincennes University.

Bellmont topples county-rival DeKalb

    The Bellmont girls swim team won all but two events Tuesday night at notched a 96-83 victory over NHC rival DeKalb in action at the Bellmont pool while in the boys meet, the Braves had a much easier time in slamming their Baron foes 141-37.

5-year plan for parks is unveiled

    A recreational vehicle campground along Parkview Drive as part of an expanded Kekionga Park.
    A new park area east of First Street in downtown Decatur, compete with a stage area, playground and a pedestrian bridge across the St. Marys River.
    Limberlost Park near Geneva enhanced with new walking trails and access points to the Wabash River. Greater accessibility for handicapped residents and more and better restroom facilities at all parks countywide.

    "There's water everywhere!" city Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert said at 8 a.m. today.
    All city streets were passable, but water was standing on a number of them, including High St., in the low area near the Knights of Columbus. During a time of the year when they might be moving snow, street department employees were putting out high-water signs.
    The minor flooding was the result of a lot of rain in a short time combined with snow melt.

Kuntzman seeks post of auditor

.    Wes Kuntzman has announced that he is a candidate for Adams County Auditor.
    He is the second Republican auditor candidate to announce. Mary Beery earlier filed  her candidacy.
    Current Auditor Bill Borne cannot seek a new term due to term limits.

5th grade Coms take two; girls fall to St. Jude

    The fifth grade St. Joe boys played two games over the weekend and came away with two victories to bolster their record back to .500 with a 6-6 mark.

Lehman opposes RTW referendum

    State Rep. Matt Lehman on Saturday morning told a crowd comprised mostly of organized labor members that he will vote against a proposal to allow Hoosiers to determine at the ballot box the fate of a contentious right-to-work bill now being debated in the Indiana General Assembly.
    The response from union supporters was perhaps summed up best by Decatur resident Daniel Jaurigue, a member of carpenters' union Local 232, who said: "We are watching how you vote, and we're going to fire you."

GOP gets 3rd candidate for Recorder

    Gerald M. (Jerry) Walker of Berne has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for  Adams County Recorder.
    He is the third GOP candidate to announce for Recorder, joining Deb Stimpson and Jim Voglewede, both of Decatur, in the field.
    Walker is currently serving as Monroe Township Trustee and previously had served as township trustee/assessor. He is employed with Yager Furniture of Berne,  is pastor of Landmark Baptist Church, New Haven, and also serves on the Berne Tree Board.

Indiana House recognizes Dots in Blue Water

    INDIANAPOLIS — During session Thursday, the Indiana House of Representatives recognized a resolution introduced by Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne, to honor students from South Adams High School for their involvement with the charity organization Dots in Blue Water.

Jets make 2-3 showing in Warren Super Duals

    INDIANAPOLIS — Too many falls given up were the problem for Adams Central Saturday in the tough Warren Central Super Dual as the Jets went 2-3, losing just 35-30 to No. 14 Warren Central and 39-38 to Ben Davis. No. 6 (Coaches' poll) Roncalli stopped the Jets 49-19.
    The Jets shut out Howe 69-6 and blanked Northwestern 81-0.
    Adams Central stalwarts Derek Roe at 132, Cody Walburn at 120, Ben Pfister at 182 and Zeke Schultz at 152 all went unbeaten on the day.
