3 seek NA board seat; Incumbent in field

    Two women are among three candidates seeking a seat on the North Adams Board of Education, a seat to be filled by Decatur City Council.
    Ben Faurote, who currently holds the seat, filed an application to seek what would be his first full term. The other candidates who filed before last Saturday's deadline are Stacey Bussel and Ada Steiner.
    All three are city residents, which they must be to be eligible for the seat.

$3,840 courthouse addition study is given the go-ahead

    Dave Sholl of Schenkel and Schultz Architecture on Monday presented the Adams County Commissioners with an estimate of $3,840 to perform a study on the feasibility of adding an addition to the Adams County Courthouse to house superior court, Community Corrections and the probation department.
    The proposal includes an assessment of the existing conditions of the courthouse, development of floor plans, site plans, and building section, parking options, cost estimate, and a final presentation to commissioners.

Mourdock to speak at Lincoln Day dinner

    Indiana State Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock will be the featured speaker at the Adams County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day Dinner. The event will be held Thursday, May 3, at South Adams High School, with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7.
    According to a press release from party officials, the event is open to the public and "everyone is invited to attend and meet with Mourdock prior the May 8 primary election."

Dorothy P. Bacon

    Dorothy P. Bacon, 90, of Decatur, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at 9 a.m., at the Ossian Health and Rehabilitation Center.
    Dorothy was born October 29, 1921, in Adams County, to the late Fredrick and Sarah (Michel) Wenger.
    She married Samuel A. Bacon on January 19, 1941, in Fort Wayne; he passed away April 22, 2009.
    She was a 1939 graduate of P.A. Allen High School and was a homemaker.

Jerry R. Brandt

    Jerry R. Brandt, 68, of rural Decatur, died on Monday, April 2, 2012, in Adams Memorial Hospital.
    Jerry was born on August 28, 1943, in Decatur, to Dale L. and Alvina P. (Butler) Brandt, Sr. 
    On February 25, 1967, he married Barbara J. Miller.

Rickie L. Elzey

April 3, 2012

    Rickie L. Elzey, 64, of Fort Wayne, passed away on April 1, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital.
    He was born on October 18, 1947, to Norma C. (Keller) Elzey and the late Vilas Elzey Jr. 
    Rick graduated from Bishop Luers High School and earned an associate's degree in accounting from Saint Francis College. He served his country in the United States Army and retired from General Electric with over 30 years of service.

Lew E. Heiser

April 3, 2012

    Lew E. Heiser, 70, of rural Decatur, died Mondayat his residence.
    He was born to Ray E. Heiser and Pansey L. (Biggs) Heiser.
    He is survived by his friend, Mike Harmon, of Decatur.
    There will be no services.
    Arrangements by Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.

SAdams land bid by CDI is accepted

    The South Adams Schools Board, at a special meeting on Friday, accepted a bid of $747,300 from CDI Development Services LLC, for the former elementary school property located at the corner of US 27 and St. Route 218 in Berne.
    The bid from CDI was the only one received and it is $54,500 more than the most recent appraised value of $693,000. However, the property appraised for $721,000 in 2011, when the deal with GKB Enterprises to build a CVS store fell through.

Limberlost to host Golden Egg hunt

    The Limberlost State Historic Site site in Geneva will host a Golden Easter Egg hunt starting at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
    Participating youngsters will have the opportunity to gather as many eggs as they can, an announcement said. Those who find special Golden Eggs will win a grand prize.
