    The 2014 Adams County 4-H Royal Ambassador will be named Tuesday, immediately following the annual 4-H parade, on the stage at the Adams County 4-H Fairgrounds in Monroe. Pictured in front, from left, are candidates Lindsey Bluhm, Carley Meyers, Meghan Manley, Paige LeMaster, Christina Stockman and Bethany Fuhrmann. Commissioners, county council to talk land buy in executive session

     A press release from Adams County Auditor Mary Beery indicates a joint executive session of the Adams County Council and the Adams County Commissioners will be held at 8 a.m. Monday. The purpose of the executive session, which is closed to the public, is “to discuss a strategy for the possible purchase of real estate by Adams County under I.C. 5-14-1.5-6.1 (b)(2)(D).”

S. Adams BOE discusses social media strategy

    South Adams Superintendent of Schools Scott Litwiller informed school board members at their recent meeting he is continuing to work on a “vision for social media use” at South Adams; one that is congruent with the school’s mission, objectives and goals. Specifically, the board is interested in using social media as an outreach tool for communication and marketing.

A GREAT CATCH FOR THE COUGARS—Adams Central’s Kyle Baker signed a Letter of Intent to play baseball at the University of Saint Francis next spring earlier this week. Baker was a catcher for the Jets his entire career earning a semi-state appearance in 2013. Statewide bike ride remembers police officers who gave their all

    The 12th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors riders were in Decatur Wednesday during day three of a 19-day trek covering nearly 1,000 miles throughout Indiana. The event kicked off in downtown Indianapolis Monday as 66 cyclists participating in this year’s ride began their journey in honor of fallen Indiana law enforcement officers.

Berne awards contract for sewer project

    With closing on the loan for the Berne waste water treatment plant upgrade just a few weeks away, Ben Adams of Commonwealth Engineering met with Berne City Council Monday evening to ask for approval to award R.E. Crosby, Inc. of Fort Wayne the contract for the project.
    Crosby submitted the low bid of $8.8 million during the June 23 council meeting, a figure that was much higher than the estimated $7.3 million to complete the project.

Byerly couple picked as 4-H parade honorees

    Wayne and Edith Byerly have been selected as the Grand Marshalls  for the 2014 Adams County 4-H Fair parade.
    The Byerlys have serviced the 4-H community in a variety of capacities. For the past 15 years, the couple have served as groundskeepers, mowing the fairgrounds and tending flowers that offer a burst of color for all visitors.
