Zurcher Tire, Inc. of Monroe has announced that as of next Tuesday, May 1, its name will be Zurcher’s Best-One Tire & Auto Care.â€¨ "Customers can still expect the same great people, values, service and prices that they have come to rely on from this local Monroe business over the years," a news release saide. "Founder and president Paul Zurcher values the business’s connection to the community."
Ernest "Ernie" Eugene Gerardot, 50, of Carmel, passed away shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Vincent’s Hospice, Indianapolis, after losing his five-month battle with cancer.
Ernie was born January 9, 1962, in Fort Wayne, the seventh of 11 children born to Leonard S. and Aleta R. (Singer) Gerardot.
He grew up in Monroeville and graduated from Heritage High School in 1980. He graduated from Ball State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
A memorial service will be held for the late Charlotte E. Vera at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, with Pastor Marcia Kline officiating.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Decatur First Presbyterian Church, Adams County Community Foundation Scholarship Fund or Family LifeCare

MONROE—Adams Central hosted their annual track invitational featuring Bluffton, Southern Wells, Fremont, Canterbury, and Monroe Central on Friday night with the Jets earning first place on the boys side and the girls a second-place finisher just narrowly missing the win over Fremont by a slim seven points.
Enos M. Schwartz, 3, and Barbara M. Schwartz, 5, passed away April 17, 2012, and Jerry M. Schwartz, 17, of rural Decatur, passed away April 27, 2012, as a result of injuries suffered in a fatal traffic accident.
They were the children of Martin F. and Mary M. (Wickey) Schwartz.
They were Old Order Amish.
Betty M. (Leimenstoll) Beitler, 87, of Decatur, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
Betty was born in Adams County, on July 17, 1924, to the late John and Irene (Denny) Myers.
On November 8, 1953, she married Lloyd Leimenstoll; he died March 10, 1975.
She married Harry Beitler on August 5, 1981; he died May, 1991.
Adams County Sheriff Shane Rekeweg announced Friday that there has been a third fatality resulting from the April 17 accident involving an Amish buggy and a van on SR 124 near CR 400W.
Rekeweg said Jerry M. Schwartz, 17, who has been hospitalized since the accident, has died as a result of his injuries.
No information regarding the condition of Mary M. Schwartz, 44, who was transported by helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital, has been released.
Residents of Oakwood Terrace Apartments in Berne who survived a devastating fire this week surveyed the damage and tried to salvage some of their belongings on Thursday afternoon.
Jeremy Weaver, a friend of apartment complex owner/manager Keith Hansel, said, "Demolition is expected to begin on Tuesday." He added that after the burned-out building is razed, rebuilding will begin immediately and should take about two weeks to complete.
Zachary McKee, a 27-year-old Ossian resident, was about to graduate from IPFW in May with a political science degree and begin working at the Indiana Statehouse. Four years as a distinguished U.S. Marine was on his resume.
Then he tragically died in an unusual accident near Chicago on Sunday.
Dave Meyer of the county buildings and grounds department reported to county commissioners Monday that he received a quote of $58,631 from Atlas Building Services to add window flashing to the third floor windows across the front of the Service Complex.
Alternately, Atlas quoted a price of $16,736 to clean the area and add a water repellant to the windows.
There has been a problem with leakage at the complex for quite some time, according to Meyer.
