    Carl Lichtenberger, 79, of Decatur, died Wednesday at the Van Wert Hospice Center.
    Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

Marggie Solano

May 17, 2012

    Marggie Solano, 89, Berne, died Tuesday at her residence.
    Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann (Joe) Tilbury, Berne; sons, David (Pauline) Solano, Riverside, Calif., and Ruben (Janet) Solano, Berne.  
    Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Trinity Methodist Church, with calling one hour prior to services.     
    Burial will be in MRE Cemetery.

Local duo to visit China

    Mayor John Schultz and Adams County Economic Development Director Larry Macklin will be heading to China next month, looking to make some business connections, it was learned at Tuesday night's city council meeting.
    They will be part of a contingent of 25 or so people invited to join a trip organized by the office of Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman. This year's trip will mark the 25th such venture led by the same office.

Pitchin' pink

    Becky Stucky, who is beginning treatment for breast cancer, threw out the first pitch Tuesday evening at Adams Central's Striking Out Breast Cancer softball game.
    Pink was everywhere as fans turned out for the event, and pink items were for sale.
    All proceeds from the event will go to the Adams Memorial Hospital’s Paul & Kathryn Strickler Cancer Institute.
    By the way, the AC girls topped Winchester, 23-0. Game story in today's print edition.

Students and stats come to council

    Students and statistics were on the agenda for Decatur City Council on Tuesday night, thanks to the Bellmont High School statistics class.
    Spurred by a meeting with Mayor John Schultz and local resident Larry Isch last January, the 14 students in Kent Arnold's class surveyed students in the fifth through 12 grades at Bellmont middle and high schools.

James Thomas Snyder

    James Thomas Snyder, 72, of New Haven, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
    Mr. Snyder was born in Fort Wayne on April 10, 1940, to the late Boyd and Mildred (Gause) Snyder.
    He graduated from Leo High School in 1958. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy for seven years. Jim was employed with American Electric Power for 35 years before retiring March 21, 2001.

Lehman hails right-to-work

    State Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne, wrapped up the Decatur Chamber of Commerce's monthly speaker series for the year on Monday with an overview of the Indiana General Assembly's recent legislative session.
    Speaking at Woodcrest retirement community, Lehman said state lawmakers tackled some tough issues this session, "and when all was said and done ... I think we did some things that are very good for the state of Indiana."

    Despite a last-minute revision deemed necessary to comply with state regulations governing the possession of firearms in public spaces, Berne City Council on Monday adopted an ordinance outlining permissible conduct in the city's Lehman Park.
