Squaws beat Snider in four

    FORT WAYNE—The first words coach Krull used to describe the Snider/Bellmont game on Thursday night was "intense."
    The Squaws got off to another slow start which led to the eventual dropping of game one, but, as Bellmont has shown all season long to this point, when they get warmed up they are hard to beat.
    In a four-game battle with the Lady Panthers, Bellmont emerged victorious 20-25, 25-17, 25-13, 25-10.

Game, turnout honor crash victim

    The second annual Brittany Raymond Arnold Memorial Softball Tournament was held at Hanna Nuttman Park recently, as hundreds of family and friends turned out to honor a woman who lost her life on September 12, 2010.
    A scholarship fund has been established in Brittany's memory for a non-traditional student, which was Brittany's status on the day when the vehicle she was driving unexpectedly left the roadway as she was texting.

City, county offices close for holiday

    City offices in Decatur and Berne will be closed next Monday in observance of Labor Day.
    Trash collections in both communities will be suspended for the day, with the pickups to be made on Tuesday with the regular run.
    County offices in the Service Complex and courthouse also will be closed.
    
    Compost:
    Decatur's compost site will be open Monday and mulch is available, officials said.

Isaac could drop 7 inches of rain

    INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Remnants of Hurricane Isaac will swoop into Indiana from the west and drop as much as 7 inches of rain over five days, providing much-needed relief from the drought in some areas, forecasters said Thursday.
    National Weather Service experts told emergency management officials that the storm’s greatest threat could be small tornadoes. The weather service also said flooding was possible but not certain.

County’s vendor checks going electronic

    Mailing checks to pay for work done in Adams County will soon come to an end, according to auditor Bill Borne.
    Borne told Adams County Commissioners this week that the county will soon begin paying vendors electronically to save money on man hours, materials and postage.
    Vendors will soon be asked to provide the county with their bank information for to allow for electronic payments. Once a claim has been sent to the county and processed, the funds will then be transferred to the vendor's account.

Clifford D. Kuhn

August 30, 2012

    Clifford D. Kuhn, 77, Decatur, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Chalet Village.
    He was born to Lloyd and Ruth (Baker) Kuhn on July 16, 1935.
    Cliff was employed at Fleetwood in Decatur for 22 years. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and listening to the Calvary Bible Radio broadcast from Florida.

Remains laid to rest second time

     It was a three-mile journey that took nearly three years to complete, but the remains of turn-of-the-century Berne residents were laid to rest for a second time Wednesday at M.R.E. Cemetery west of Berne.
    Cemetery officials and a handful of interested onlookers joined with representatives from the Indianapolis-based AMEC Earth & Environmental archaeology firm to re-inter human remains and burial artifacts excavated in 2009 and 2010 from the long-abandoned Mennonite Church Cemetery in Berne.

Squaws split NHC games

    The Squaws lost a tough conference match against the Norwell Lady Knights on Tuesday night, falling by a 3-2 score in a match that saw two overtime periods and a shootout, while picking up a win last Thursday against rival Columbia City, 3-0.
