Steven N. Schwartz, infant son of Noah M.R. and Adeline E.L. Schwartz of Monroe, was stillborn Friday.
Surviving in addition to the parents are four brothers, Mervin, David, Kenneth and Matthew; and two sisters, Miriam and Lorene, all at home. Also surviving are grandparents Elmer D. and Emma Schwartz of Monroe and Melvin F. and Rebecca Schwartz of Geneva.
Burial was in Winchester Cemetery.
Decatur’s Kekionga Festival, the annual celebraton of the heratige of Decatur and Adams County, will begin Wednesday evening with a praise and worship service at 7 p.m. and will continue throughout the upcoming weekend.
Taste of Decatur
This year’s Taste of Decatur event will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Riverside Center in conjunction with the festival.
Food and fun was on the agenda at the Summer’s End Street Festival held Saturday in Geneva. Heaven Elder, enjoyed some corn on the cob during her visit. A beer garden, kid’s zone and live music were also part of the festival.
The 23rd annual Wiffleball tournament was held over the weekend in Wren, with MKS Siding pulling off a three-peat victory as they edged out The Eager Beavers to take the championship. Shown is the junior championship game between Am Fam and The Metal Heads, with Am Fam taking the junior championship.
Mary Lou Birdsall, 85, Berne, died Thursday at Swiss Village Retirement Community. Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.
Berniece A. Hackman, 86, Decatur, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born in Decatur Jan. 8, 1928, to the late John A. and Mary A. (Bernard) Kintz.
On May 28, 1949 she married Anselm B. (Jack) Hackman; he preceded her in death Oct. 20, 2013.
Berniece was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She had worked for Monmouth Elementary as a teacher’s aide.
Dale Richard Wagner, 66, Geneva, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at his residence.
He was born in Celina, Ohio, July 28, 1948, to the late Dorman “Curly” and Edna Wagner.
A 1967 graduate of South Adams High School, Dale was a member of the American Legion Post 468 in Berne and VFW Post 6751 in Geneva. He was a retired machinist and former owner of Chip and Dales in Geneva.
Thirty minutes into a Thursday morning Community Development Day program at the Indiana State Fair, hosted by Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann, a contingent representing the city of Decatur got the bad news: Decatur’s bid for a Stellar Communities grant had not been successful.
Decatur was one of six finalists for a multi-million dollar grant from the Stellar Communities group. In the end, grants were awarded to the cities of Huntingburg and Wabash.

Due to apparent confusion between state election officials and county clerk of courts offices across Indiana, the deadline for filing petitions of candidacy for local school board seats was incorrect as listed in this and other newspapers earlier this week.
The correct deadline for local school board candidates to submit their petitions to the Adams County Clerk of Courts office is noon Aug. 22, according to County Clerk Gayla Reinhart.
