Braves dominate CvC Classic

    In what has become the unofficial ringing in of the high school baseball season for Adams County, the fourth annual Coaches Versus Cancer Classic was a booming success at Bellmont on Saturday as all three county schools met up for a triple-header on what easily the best day for baseball yet this spring.

Central boys track edge Bellmont

    Adams Central and Jay County split track meets Thursday evening at Bob Worthman Stadium with the AC boys scoring 71 points to 67 for Bellmont and 23 for Jay County while in the girls event the Patriots edged out Bellmont 72.5 to 63 while AC was third with 25.5 points.

‘Historic US 27’ endeavor could benefit downtown tourism efforts

    Plans to create a business loop to Decatur’s downtown by employing the original U.S. 27 route were unveiled at Tuesday night’s meeting of city council.    
    Decatur Main Street, a group of local volunteers, plans to place “Historic US 27” signage along the original route once authority is granted by the Indiana Department of Transportation. Plans also call for development of a tourism guide to the attraction on both the current route and the former route.

Amish construction dwarfs ‘English’ in 2014, report shows

    There were twice as many permits issued for the construction of new homes for Amish families than there were for all other residents of unincorporated areas of Adams County in 2014, the annual report submitted to county commissioners by Building/Zoning and Planning Director Mark Wynn shows.

Time running out to name ‘pocket park’

    The Decatur Main Street organization is now accepting nominations for the new name of the “pocket park,” located on the corner of 2nd and Monroe streets in downtown Decatur.
    Should it be named after a local legend or a local landmark? Should it rhyme? The group wants your suggestions.

Redevelopment group to get city TIF funds

    Changes in Decatur’s Tax Increment Financing setup have been finalized and, it is hoped, by 2016 will bring some TIF funds to the city’s redevelopment commission.
    The announcement was made at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
    Used as a subsidy for redevelopment, TIF is a method of public financing. Future gains in taxes in a designated area are collected, then used to finance improvements.

    Dark skies and heavy rain moved into Adams County Wednesday morning, forcing this woman and her young daughter to dodge raindrops on their way to the store. By early afternoon rain clouds had yielded to sunshine and milder temperatures.
