Key Stellar grant dates are rapidly approaching

    Mayor John Schultz expressed “high expectations” at Tuesday night’s city council meeting when he talked about the city’s bid for a multimillion dollar Stellar Communities grant.
    The city, one of 14 communities originally seeking the major grant, has made the final cut to six. Having laid out plans for various improvements around Decatur, city officials are now fleshing out those plans to submit its Strategic Investment Plan. It has received $10,000 from the Stellar Communities program to prepare the final plan.

City hall, PD bids to be opened soon

    Plans continue to move forward on Decatur’s city hall and police station projects.
    Mayor John Schultz said at Tuesday’s city council meeting bids on the renovation of the former First State Bank building at 2nd and Monroe streets are due to be received April 30. The building will be converted into a new city hall.

APLS-Decatur decorate eggs

Officials at Adams Public Library-Decatur continued an egg-decorating tradition Monday evening. Myla Ellenberger got a hand from grandma Karen Carroll as they decorated their assortment of eggs to be hung on an egg tree.

City lends support to downtown jail

    Locating a new jail and court building downtown may not be ideal in all ways, but its a far better option than constructing it out of town, Decatur City Councilman Cam Collier said Tuesday in lending the city’s support to the decision by county officials to place the building on First Street.
    County officials have not announced any specific location, but speculation holds that it will be a block or two south of Monroe Street.

DECATUR
The annual Decatur Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by WZBD radio, will be held at noon Saturday at Riverside Center.

GENEVA
Limberlost State Historic Site will sponsor an egg hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday at the baseball diamond in Geneva. Guests may also arrive early and enjoy seeing critters such as bunnies, Silkie chickens and guinea pigs at a petting zoo provided by Roll Farms of Marion.

    Lehnford L. “Bud” Bohnke, 78, Decatur, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
    He was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Decatur, to the late Herman and Louise (Bienz) Bohnke.
    Bud was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church-Fuelling and a member of the D.H.I.A. Dairy Association. He sold and produced milk for Allen Dairy, which became Prairie Farms Dairy, for more 50 years.

Lehman: Tax caps have hamstrung NA schools

    Superintendent Brent Lehman gave the annual State of the School address Monday during a Decatur Chamber of Commerce lunceon at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    “What makes North Adams such a great school district is the level of teamwork, and the relationships between parents, staff, administrators and students,” Lehman emphasized.

County attorney fires back at local jail site criticism

    Following the appearance of Vinnie’s Bar owner Chris Faurote last week before the Adams County Council to announce his displeasure with the proposed location of a new judicial center on 1st Street, Adams County Attorney Mark Burry offered a response on the part of the Adams County Commissioners at their regular weekly meeting Monday afternoon.
