PONETO— South Adams earned first place in the Bi-County Conditioner at Southern Wells Tuesday night, while the Bellmont Braves finished second in the unique event.
In what is known at Hokum-Karum style, the schools use runners in pairs alternating each mile for six miles. Scores are compiled using the combined times of each school's top three pairs.

Tonight the Bellmont Squaws play host to Heritage on the volleyball court at the Teepee. Phyllis A. (Rauch) DeKoninck, Fort Wayne and formerly of Decatur, died at 11 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2014, with all of her family by her side.
Howard D. “Howdy” Nussbaum, 86, Monroe, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Swiss Village in Berne.
He was born in Adams County March 24, 1928, to the late Edwin and Ora (Baumgartner) Nussbaum. On Jan. 10, 1953, Howdy married Eloise L. (Smith) Nussbaum. The couple enjoyed 61 years of marriage; she survives.
Ferdinand Selking, 83, Decatur, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Ferd was born in Adams County Tuesday, May 5, 1931, to the late Henry and Sene (Thieme) Selking. He married Carol Kurtz Aug. 31, 1958, in St. John Lutheran Church, Lake Township, in Allen County.
Ferd was a lifelong farmer and was employed for 24 years at Navistar in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Preble.
Thomas Dean Titus, 76, Decatur, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Adams Woodcrest.
Tom was born in Decatur Thursday, Sept. 16, 1937, the son of the late Thomas Wesley and Margaret Rose (Thomas) Titus. He married Hazel Roberts on June 6, 1959; she passed away Nov. 29, 1965. He married Mary (Woebbeking) Titus Aug. 9, 1969, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne; she survives.

Bellmont High School will host an informational meeting for parents of all seniors and any students taking dual credits at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Erekson Memorial Theater.
