Berne pavilion dedicated Saturday

A new pavilion on the grounds of the Meunsterberg Plaza in Berne was dedicated Saturday evening. The pavilion will provide needed restroom facilities to the site, as well as picnic opportunities and a focal point for other gatherings. Following the dedication, the Summit City Barbershop Quartet performed in concert.

Nina Duella Dealey

    Nina Duella Dealey, 89, Convoy, passed away at 3:42 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
    She was born  in Van Wert County April 21, 1925, to the late Francis and Duella (Krauter) Krick. On Aug. 2, 1941, she married Oliver Henry Dealey; he preceded her in death July 21, 1995.

Hazel Fifer

    Hazel Fifer, 96, Decatur, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Adams Woodcrest.
    She was born in Jay County Saturday, Jan.12, 1918, to the late Bert E. and Emma (Kunkle) Smith. She married William W. Fifer Dec. 13, 1940, in Monroeville; he preceded her in death Sept. 14, 1986.

Mary R. Schaadt

    Mary R. Schaadt, 95, Berne, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Swiss Village.
    Among survivors are a son, Cy Schaadt of Berne; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Swiss Village Chapel.
    Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel and one hour prior to services Monday.    Officiating is Pastor Chris Kruchkow.
    Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert, with graveside services at 1:30 pm.

Margie A. Thieme

    Margie A. Thieme, 80, rural Decatur died Thursday at Lutheran Hospital. Arrangements are pending  Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.

Boil advisory in effect after city water main break

     Decatur residents are under a drinking water boil advisory until further notice following a rupture in a city water main Thursday afternoon on the city’s south side.
    According to Jeremy Gilbert, operations manager for the city of Decatur, the break was discovered early Thursday afternoon along Winchester Street, near the Reidenbach Equipment business. Repairs were completed by approximately 4 p.m.

Soggy morning commute

     Some motorists in Decatur were greeted with water-covered streets early this morning as afternoon and overnight storms dumped 2.53 inches of rain on the area. More rain is forecast for the next several days, threatening to put a damper on some activities associated with Decatur’s annual Kekionga Festival.

Taste of Decatur event held Thursday

     The annual Taste of Decatur event was held Thursday evening at Riverside Center as part of the Kekionga Festival. Local eateries, such as the Back 40 Junction, shown in the photo above, offered samples of their specialties to hungry festival-goers.
