Watch the ball drop early at Limberlost

    Area youngsters and their families are invited to the Limberlost State Historic Site Visitor Center from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday for an early New Year’s Eve celebration.  The highlight of the event will be a countdown to a noon New Year balloon drop.

Elizabeth Angalene "Angie" Amstutz

    Elizabeth Angalene "Angie" Amstutz, 95, Berne, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, 2014, at Swiss Village where she was a resident. She was born in Adams County March 20, 1919, to the late Paul and Frieda Zurcher Habegger. She married Ray Sharp Feb. 11, 1940, and he passed away on April 22, 1950. She later married Ernie Amstutz August 15, 1951, and he passed away on Oct. 10, 1984.

Ned R. Knape

    Ned R. Knape, 84, Walkerton, passed away at 12:33 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at Morning View Nursing Home in South Bend.
    Ned was born in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio Monday, April 7, 1930, to the late Franklin A. and Nellie M. (Miller) Knape. He married M. Jeanne Wright June 20, 1953, and she passed away on June 16, 1995.  He married Orpha Thomas on November 6, 2004 and she survives. 

Gaye Forrest McAdams Peterson

    Gaye Forrest McAdams Peterson, 56, Decatur, passed away unexpectedly at home on Dec. 23, 2014.
    Gaye was born in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 21, 1958. This was the beginning of her journey as an "Army Brat" traveling across the United States and abroad. She was a proud graduate of Nurnberg High School, Nurnberg, Germany Class of 1977. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, N.C.

Thomas J. Shaffer

    Thomas J. Shaffer, 63, Willshire, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital. Tom was born in Decatur Jan. 12, 1951, to the late Cecil (Red) and Phyllis (Bonifas) Shaffer.
    Tom was a former member of Zion United Church of Christ. He was a 1969 Bellmont High school graduate. He was a member of the Decatur Masonic Lodge 571 F&A.M., American Legion Post 207 in Willshire, Moose Lodge 1311, Redman Lodge and Eagles Lodge 2653. He worked in maintenance, was an electrician and welder. He was in the Army National Guard.

Van A. Sprunger

    Van A. Sprunger, 53, Bryant, passed away Dec. 25, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Adams County April 15, 1961 to Earl H. and Marinel Striker Sprunger. He married Angie Affolder Oct. 24, 1981.
    Van was employed at Meshberger Bros. as maintenance supervisor for 21 years. He attended the West Missionary Church and was a former member of the Berne Fire Department for 11 years. His interests included hunting, the outdoors, classic cars and he loved his family and grandchildren.

Elwin S. VanEmon

December 26, 2014

    Elwin S. VanEmon, 79, Fort Wayne, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014.
    Among survivors are his brother, Kenneth (Eula) VanEmon of Berne; sister, Janice (Jim) Hubert of Saint Louis, Mo.; 19 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne, with the Rev. Mike Wakeland officiating. Internment will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
    Visitation is from 2-3 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Life Villages.
