Eastside @ Adams Central, football broadcast

    Tonight the Adams Central Jets host Eastside at the Landing Strip in Monroe. Financial picture at hospital is still rosy, officials say

    Monetary figures discussed at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Adams Health Network board of trustees continued to be positive with the hospital showing a surplus of $76,268 in June.

Heckman, Boocher winners of the Kekionga Gallop

August 29, 2014

    The annual Kekionga Greenway Gallop 5k commenced once again on Sunday with Kevin Heckman winning the overall title and Annie Boocher earning the top female time overall.
    Heckman blazed by the competition with a time of 17:18.8, a full 45 seconds ahead of second place finisher John Schnieders (18:03.3) who had the top time amongst the Male Masters' division.

Gloria L. Lydy

    Gloria L. Lydy, 91, Decatur, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 27. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Ardella Hormann.
    She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Marion Homemakers Club and was a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She loved to read, crochet and travel with her husband.

Hospital initiates annexation plan

    The city of Decatur will grow by approximately 140 acres if action taken by the Adams Health Network Board of Trustees is approved by governmental officials.
    The trustees unanimously adopted a voluntary petition for annexation prepared by hospital attorney Adam Miller that would shift property — including the ground the hospital and Adams Woodcrest occupy — to be within the city limits instead of being rural property.

Courthouse, Service Complex in need of more repair work

    The Adams County Courthouse and Service Complex continue to require upgrades and improvements, Building Maintenance Supervisor Dave Meyer informed the Adams County Commissioners at their regular weekly meeting Monday.

City hall work closes 2nd Street

August 28, 2014

     A large crane blocked a portion of 2nd Street in downtown Decatur Wednesday morning as air conditioning units were lifted off the former bank building that will — in the near future — serve as the new home for Decatur City Hall. According to City Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert, the units were removed to allow crews to do roof repairs and will be reinstalled at a later date.

Beery, Squaws win BHS cross country invite

    The Bellmont Squaws won the cross country invitational they hosted Wednesday night in a nine-team field and junior sensation Bailey Beery easily captured first place with a strong 19:28.3 time, but other than that a lot of questions remained after the meet was over.
    The Squaws placed their top five runners in 19th or better position out of a field of 57 runners (six schools competed as teams while three others had incomplete teams) and the final statistic sheets showed them to be in the area of 41 points.
