Decatur ranked 3rd safest city in Indiana in report from home security company

    The city of Decatur has been named the third safest city in Indiana by Safewise.com, a home security company based in Salt Lake City, Utah, whose website claims it is “the authority on safety and home security news.”

State fair kicks off 17-day run Friday

    The 2014 Indiana State Fair opens Friday and will run through Aug. 17. The fair features 17 days of family fun and entertainment.
    General admission at fair gates is $10, with children 5 and under admitted free. A parking pass is $5, and midway wristbands will be sold for $30.
    Discount tickets are available at Indiana Walmart and CVS pharmacy stores and are also available online at www.in.gov/statefair.

AC teachers Isch, Hower feted for school nutrition program

Rickord honored at Cross Creek

ETHEL MAY HONOREE—Cross Creek women’s golfer Tara Rickord was given an award at the Ethel May banquet held recently at the course. The award is given to an “outstanding lady who has accomplished many goals in past years and for being a dedicated golfer in the Ladies League.” Tara has been the league scorer for 11 years, has won the club championship in 2008, placed second in the City Tournament in 2002, and has had a hole in one in her career. Three bridge projects make travel difficult

    There are currently three different bridge projects under way throughout the county, Adams County Engineer and Highway Department Superintendent Tim Barkey told the Adams County Commissioners Monday at their regular weekly meeting.

State commission urges college students to take 15+ credit hours per semester

     Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers kicked off a statewide “15 to Finish” campaign this week that aims to boost college graduation rates by encouraging Hoosier students to take at least 15 credit hours each semester. Lubbers said studies show students who complete 15 or more credits per semester are more likely to graduate on time, earn better grades and save money on their degrees.

Berne restaurant closed after outbreak

     A Berne restaurant that had its permit to operate temporarily suspended by the Adams County Health Department  last week after testing done by the laboratory of the Indiana State Department of Health  confirmed at least six persons came down with a food borne illness may be allowed to reopen perhaps as early as today.
