    Ercell C. Elliott, 84, Houlton, Maine, died Tuesday, June 29, 2014.
    Survivors include a son, L. James (Linda) Elliott of Grand Manan Island, Canada; and a sister, Maxine (Joe) Jauregui of Decatur.
    Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton, Me.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pauline Haggard

    Pauline Haggard, 87, Decatur, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born July 29, 1926, in Adams County to the late Walter and Lela (Johnson) Brintzenhofe.
    Pauline married Myron “Hank” Haggard March 14, 1953; he preceded her in death on June 18, 1996.
    Pauline was a member of St. Luke Church, a lifelong resident of Adams County and a homemaker.

Fred R. Isch

July 2, 2014

    Fred R. Isch, 81, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 1, 2014, at Adams Evergreen.
    He was born Aug. 5, 1932, in Adams County to the late Ralph S. Isch and Opal L. (Walters) Isch Lillich. 
    Fred married Nola Grandstaff on June 7, 1953; she preceded him in death on April 12, 2009.
    Fred was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a 1950 graduate of Decatur High School. He served in United States Army during the Korean War. 

Steven D. Seitz

July 2, 2014

    Steven D. Seitz, 54, Decatur, died Saturday from an accidental drowning following a kayak mishap.
    Arrangements pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.

Remembering ‘the people’s mayor’

    Fred Isch’s list of accomplishments in support of his community is seemingly endless, and began well before he served 20 years as mayor. It was his time as mayor, however, which will forever imbed his name and memory into the lifeblood of Decatur, Indiana.
    A mostly-unknown fact, though, is that Fred came extremely close to never running for mayor; maybe 72 hours or so close.

Storm Damage at Homestead

July 2, 2014

     Severe thunderstorms that went through the area early Tuesday morning caused “some very extensive damage” in the Homestead Addition, Decatur Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council later that day. Gilbert said crews would be cleaning up debris in the addition for several days.

 

Affolder seeks clerk of courts position

July 2, 2014

    A face familiar to Adams County voters is making a return to the political arena.
    Judy Affolder, former county assessor, has been selected by the Adams County Democratic Party as its candidate for the County Clerk of Courts seat. Affolder has filed the necessary paperwork and will appear on the November general election ballot. She will be opposed by Jim Voglewede Jr., who won a Republican primary race in May.
