Preliminary results of soil boring samples collected by GME Testing, Fort Wayne, indicate the recently proposed location for the construction of a new county jail “is a viable site,” Adams County Attorney Mark Burry reported to county councilors at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday morning.
North Adams school board members voted Tuesday to eliminate the EvenStart Program. The decision came with numerous other positions being eliminated to best utilize the staff employed with North Adams.
Decatur businessman Ed Dyer, who was defeated in the May Republican Party primary in his bid to be the party’s nominee for the Adams County Clerk of Courts seat, has been selected by party leaders to run on the November ballot for the District 2 seat on Adams County Council.
That seat, currently held by DuWayne Herman, represents residents in the city of Decatur and Washington Township. Herman has opted not to seek re-election.
The Northeast Hoosier Conference and the Allen County Athletic Conference each released their All-team lists this week as all three county schools were honored for their play.
Bellmont, finishing 3-4 in the NHC, drew just one player on the first team list while also nabbing a pair of selections to the honorable mention lists.
Robert L. "Bob" Chandler, 84, Fort Wayne, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Coventry Meadows.
He was born Tuesday, August 13, 1929, in Washington, Ind., the son of the late Loran M. and Vonda (Holsapple) Chandler-Smith.
He married Ann (Lehrman) Schinnerer Sept. 24, 1983, in Fort Wayne; she survives. Bob served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Cash Steven Walker was stillborn June 8, 2014.

The speaker was Jean Porter Brune, and the property under discussion is a parcel of land on the southern edge of Decatur across from the Woodcrest Retirement Community between Mercer Avenue and the St. Marys River, disclosed last week as a potential site for a new county jail at a meeting of the Adams County Commissioners.

Five or so minutes into Berne City Council’s meeting on Monday night, a member of that body slipped into his chair. No one minded that he was a few minutes late.
In fact, there were nothing but smiles throughout the council chambers when Councilman Mark Wynn plopped into his customary seat.
