Monroe okays share of sewer project costs

    The city of Monroe will provide its financial share for the sewer project upgrades currently being undertaken by the city of Berne to the wastewater treatment lagoon owned by Monroe and Berne. The Monroe Town Council met Thursday evening to approve the expenditure of approximately $900,000, to be paid over a 20-year span, reflecting its one-eighth ownership of the lagoon.

    Another victim of the rugged winter of 2013-14, as well as age, sits somewhat lonely and forlorn in Hanna-Nuttman Park. Across the road from the Girl Scout cabin, its “cousin,” the Boy Scout cabin, almost sparkles in contrast.

     Jill Hackney of Philadelphia, Pa., and a student at Ball State University, twirls a hula-hoop while on roller skates as part of a film that will be entered in the Old 27 Film Festival later this month. Shooting the video is Kevin Glassing, another BSU students. Hackney said a class assignment called for BSU students to come to Decatur at one of nine specified locations to shoot videos for the local film festival. The pair above were at the Old 27 Ice Cream Shop in downtown Decatur.
