Cross Creek golf camp results

    The 2014 Cross Creek Golf Camp held their annual tourney at the end of their experience on the course throughout June.
    The divisions included girls in groups of 8-9 years old, 10-11, and 14-15, while the boys were split into 7-10 year olds, 10-11s, 12-13s, and 14 and older.

    Kenneth E. Yoder, 87, Berne, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Bluffton Regional Hospital.
    Among survivors are his wife, Jeannette Yoder; daughter, Jennifer L. Grigson of Garland, Texas; son, Jay (Ronda) Yoder of Mishawaka; and sisters, Darlene (Claren) Lehman, Alice Ehrman, Janis (Leonard) Balsiger, all of Berne.

    Erna Bultemeier Tuttle, born Sept 30,1924, near Decatur, passed away quietly May 27, 2014, in Las Vegas.
    Her family meant everything to her. She moved from Snow Lake to Las Vegas after the passing of husband, Richard, in 1989 to be near “her beautiful family.” She was loved by so many and will be dearly missed by all.

Final meeting emotional for retiring chief

    Warmth, friendliness and sincere praise filled council chambers Tuesday night as the city administration, Decatur council and department heads bid farewell to retiring Police Chief Ken Ketzler, attending his final council meeting as chief.
    “We say thanks, but I don’t think we can say that enough,” Mayor John Schultz said prior to the reading of a resolution filled with appreciation and praise for Ketzler.

Classic car enthusiasts visit Decatur

     Approximately 75 car enthusiasts, part of the Defiance chapter of the Veteran Motor Car Club of America and known as the Farm Boys Tour, were in Decatur Wednesday as part of the group’s 32nd annual tour. The group always tours at this time of year “so the farm boys would be finished planting and could ‘go play’ with their cars,” according to a news release. The group visited and toured Thunderbird Products as part of their annual gathering. More photos appear on Page 2 of today's print and online editions.

Work to begin soon on demolition at Decatur Plaza; part of I&M’s transmission line upgrade

     A spokesman for Indiana and Michigan Power reported Wednesday most of the parking lot at the largely-vacant Decatur Plaza shopping center on the north edge of the city will close within days in anticipation of work to make way for a future I&M substation.
    According to Communications Consultant Tracy Warner, the project is part of a “major enhancement of I&M’s transmission system in the area.” The project will increase reliability of electric service in Adams County, Warner said.
