The body of a Decatur man missing since Friday has been located in the St. Marys River.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. Monday, the Decatur Fire Department, who was assisting the Department of Natural Resources in the search efforts, recovered the body of Steve Seitz, 54, who has been missing since the kayak he was operating near Pleasant Mills struck a log jam and overturned.
The search continued today for a missing Decatur man who was last seen Friday kayaking on the St. Marys River.
Steve Seitz, 54, was kayaking near Pleasant Mills with another man when his kayak struck a log jam and overturned, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Sgt. Patrick Heidenreich. Seitz was thrown into the water and did not resurface. He was not wearing a life jacket when the boat overturned, Heidenreich said.
Ruth L. Peters, 85, Decatur, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.
She was born Wednesday, Oct. 17, 1928, in Allen County, the daughter of the late Henry and Minnie (Oetting) Wiegmann.
Ruth married Melvin W. C. Peters May 7, 1949; he preceded her in death April 20, 2003.
Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Preble, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the LWML.
Russell N. Jones, 76, Monroeville, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1937, in Churubusco, the son of the late Nathan and Elma (Hutchinson) Jones.
Russell married Jean C. Gaskill Aug. 22, 1969, in Dixon; she passed away Sept. 26, 2005.
Russell was a member of the Moose Lodge 1311 in Decatur and Convoy Fox Hunters in Convoy, Ohio. He enjoyed trap shooting and fishing.
Becky B. Schwartz, 4, Berne, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 8, 2009, in Adams County, to Chris J. and Bertha L. (Troyer) Schwartz; they survive in Berne.
Becky is survived by two brothers, Enos B. and John B. Schwartz, at home; a sister, Lizzie B. Schwartz, at home; maternal grandparents, David E. and Lizzie Troyer of Monroe; and paternal grandparents, John Q. and Rosie Schwartz of Geneva.
Sheldon L. Harris, 74, Winchester, died Thursday.
Arrangements are pending at Walker Funeral Home.
The Relay for Life annual fundraiser, “Picture a Cure,” was held at Adams Central School Saturday and Sunday. Teams of walkers came together to raise funds for the fight against cancer.
The event kicked off with the Survivor’s Lap, where area residents who have defeated cancer took the first trip around the AC track, celebrating their victory over cancer while being cheered on by other participants who lined the track.

Marilyn J. Sprunger, 84, Decatur, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Decatur, to the late Leroy and Jennie M. (Frauhiger) Beer.
She married her husband of 61 years, Burl J. Sprunger, Nov. 16, 1952; he survives.
