Robert G. Christener

    Robert Gene Christener, 71, Monroe, passed away at 6:34 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    Robert was born Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1942, in Decatur, the son of the late John and Evelyn Maxine (Bovine) Christener Jr. 
    He married Carolyn Sue Amstutz April 15, 1989, in Adams County; she survives.

Abby Busse, Cooper Hill top grads in AC Class of 2014

    Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, and Adams Central High School has named the top two scholars for the class of 2014 as Abby Busse and Cooper Hill.
    Valedictorian Abby Busse is the daughter of Bob and Julie Busse of rural Decatur. Busse participated in basketball, softball, National Honor Society, History Club, Student Council, SAAC, Sunshine Society, Club International and Literati during her four years at Adams Central.

County official said improving

     Mark Wynn, a member of Berne City Council and the Adams County director of Building/Planning and Zoning, was upgraded to “serious” condition this morning at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he was transported Wednesday after reportedly being found unresponsive in his home.

     It’s hard work to paddle a boat, as two students in the Advanced Manufacturing class at Bellmont High School found out when propelling a pontoon boat built by the class on Kekionga Lake at the southeast edge of Decatur. The class has 11 members and is led by teacher Catherine Sondgerath. This was the third time the craft had been in the water. In the yellow life jacket is junior-to-be Quentin Geels and in the black lifejacket is senior-to-be Anthony Bertsch. The vessel has a wooden superstructure and four plastic barrels to stay afloat.

Bienz qualifies for state High Jump

    FORT WAYNE— Cameron Bienz will be the only Adams County boys track star to represent at Indiana University next week after placing second in the High Jump at Wayne High School on Thursday night.
    Bishop Dwenger took top team points honors netting a total of 59.50, while Carroll managed 54 for second place. After that it was Lakeland with 46, Homestead and Marion tied with 39, and Northrop with 32.

DeWayne Dawson

    DeWayne “Ken” Dawson, 71, Geneva, passed away at 9:43 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his residence. 
    He was born Monday, Feb. 3, 1943, in Decatur to the late Arthur “Pete” Dawson and Katherine Wolfe.
    Ken married Marjorie Dawson Saturday, Nov. 3, 1984, in Berne; she survives. 

Dolores M. Schumm

    Dolores M. Schumm, 94, Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Woodview Healthcare in Fort Wayne.
    She is survived by two sisters, Lola Schumm of Fort Wayne and Ellen Black of Willshire; two nieces, Jane Black of Fort Wayne and Susan (Randall) Duly of Monroeville; a great-niece, Anna Duly, and great nephew, Matthew Duly.
    Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church–Schumm, with calling one hour prior to the services. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Patterson.

‘Birthday Bash’ carnival slated Friday for young cancer patient

    A birthday bash and fundraising benefit will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Bridge Community Church for Ebony Fawcett, a soon-to-be 9-year-old Decatur resident with sparkling eyes and an infectious smile who is battling cancer for the third time.
