Braves drop home game against Woodlan

April 30, 2014

    The Bellmont Braves dropped their third straight loss on Wednesday night entertaining the Woodlan Warriors in a non-conference battle 8-0 at the Teepee.
    The Braves are now 7-3 after winning their first seven to start the year and they played without coach Ben Fawbush who served his one-game suspension for being thrown out of game two of the Huntington North double-header on Saturday.

    Charlotte L. Webb Weimer, 86, Berne, died at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2014, at Chalet Village in Berne.
    Surviving are three daughters, Kay Arnold and Joy (Eric) Glidewell, both of Berne and Cosy Luke (Jerry) Watschke of Hackensack, Minn.; a brother, Don (Margaret Ann) Harsha of Berne; a sister, Shirley (Don) Richwine of Bluffton; a step-daughter, Rosie (Al) Farlow of Geneva; and a step-son, Larry (JoLyn) Webb of Longmont, Colo.

    Roberta Jean "Berta" Witte, 54, Ohio City, Ohio, passed away at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
    Berta was born Thursday, Sept. 24, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of the late Ivan Charles and Jessie Marie (Cousino) Eckhart. 
    She married Robert "Rob" Witte May 18, 1991; he survives.

Economist: No end in sight for recession

    More than 60 area business leaders and other Adams County residents attended the second annual Economic Outlook Forum,  held Tuesday in the Decatur Room ofAdams Memorial Hospital. The event was sponsored by the First Merchant Bank in conjunction with the Decatur, Berne and Geneva chambers of commerce.

    Voters will go to the polls May 6 during this year’s primary election. Among candidates on various ballots will be individuals seeking nomination to township boards.

Fight at BHS sends pair to hospital

April 30, 2014

An altercation Tuesday morning between two male students at Bellmont High School ended with both of the combatants going through a plate glass window at the school receiving treatment at Adams Memorial Hospital for their injuries.
“The best way I can put it is that two students made some poor decisions as to how to handle a disagreement,” Superintendent of Schools Brent Lehman said Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m confident this (a trip to the hospital” was not in their plans.”

Columbia City/Bellmont baseball postponed tonight

   Tonight's game between the Braves and Eagles of Columbia City has been postponed due to field conditions on the baseball diamond. The DDD broadcast of the game will be available on the date that the game will be made up on. Here is a look of the future broadcasts upcoming from the DDD:

    The decision by veteran District 2 Adams County Commissioner Ed Coil not to seek re-election this year has attracted two Republicans who are vying for the seat. Wes Kuntzman, executive director of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, will square off May 6 against former county treasurer Rex Moore. Both candidates were issued an identical set of questions as part of the Daily Democrat’s pre-election coverage. Following are their responses.
