V. W. “Bun” Affolder, 94, Decatur, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at his residence with family present.
He was born Friday, Feb. 21, 1919, in Van Wert County, Ohio, the son of the late William and Lovina (Egger) Affolder. Bun married Phyllis R. Houk Oct. 19, 1941, in Hoagland; she passed away Nov. 22, 1993. He then married Alice C. (Holle) Moses, April 8, 1995, in Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur; she survives.
Patricia Bienz, 79, Washington Court House, Ohio, passed away Jan. 19, 2014, at Fayette County Memorial Hospital, Washington Court House.
She was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Decatur, to the late Cecil and Vera Draper Gause.
Patricia had worked for Washington City Schools as a library aide for 25 years. Patricia was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and loved to play bridge and watch basketball, especially the Indiana Hoosiers.
Marcyle A. Gibson, 90, Monroeville, passed away at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in the St. Anne Home and Retirement Center in Fort Wayne.
Marcyle was born Monday, Aug. 27, 1923, in Decatur, the daughter of the late Martin and Margaret (Kriegel) Braun. She married the late Robert L. Gibson May 21, 1949; he passed away on Dec. 18, 2004.
Marcyle was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville. She was a homemaker and a nurse.
Gloria S. Inniger, 69, Decatur, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
Gloria was born Dec. 12, 1944, in Decatur, to the late Roy and Lucille (Tinkham) Kaehr. She married Clair Inniger Feb. 28, 1965; he survives.
Gloria was a member of New Beginnings Family Center and was a homemaker.
Mary Lou Jesionowski, 84, Decatur, died this morning.
Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
Bernardine Kreps, 94, Decatur, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Bernardine was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Adams County, to the late Albert C. and Elizabeth (Eiting) Laugerman.
She married Max E. Kreps Aug. 10, 1940; he died June 8, 1990.
The Berne Community Development Corporation has announced plans to construct a pavilion on the Muensterberg Plaza.
According to David Baumgartner, president of Berne CDC, “The pavilion will be located at the northeast corner of the plaza and will have much needed restroom facilities and will also serve as a wonderful picnic area. This will be the final improvement needed for the plaza to complete our eight pillar campaign.”
For years, one of Decatur’s primary shortcomings, as was pointed out repeatedly last month during a meeting of civic leaders who had gathered to put their heads together in a collective attempt to secure a Stellar Communities grant on behalf of the city, has been the lack of clean and accommodating motel rooms.
The Decatur Daily Democrat will host its second session of “Lunch with a Reporter” when general assignment reporter Mike Lamm heads to West End Restaurant for lunch Wednesday.
Lamm will be at the restaurant, located at 702 W Monroe St., Decatur, from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. to meet with area residents. Members of the community are invited to sit down, share a cup of coffee and offer feedback, story ideas, newsworthy tidbits or simply to exchange pleasantries.
