Donna J. Conrad

    Donna J. Conrad, 72, Huntington, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in the Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Huntington.
    Donna was born Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1941, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Roy and Helen (Schroeder) Conrad.     Donna was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen.
    Surviving are a sister, Irene Grote of Decatur; and three brothers, Alfred (Jackie) Conrad, Raymond (Karen) Conrad and Richard (Martha) Conrad, all of Decatur.

Florine Kiefer

    Florine  Kiefer, 90, New Haven, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in the Parkview Regional Medical Center.
    She married the late Elmer Kiefer April 21, 1943; he passed away Jan. 30, 1984.

Larry D. Marbaugh

    Larry D. Marbaugh, 81, Willshire, Ohio, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
    He was born in Celina, Ohio Oct. 27, 1932, to the late Clifford L. and Mildred L. (Lehman) Marbaugh. He married his wife of 43 years, Nancy J. Christener May 9, 1970; she survives.

Riverside Olympics

Team U.S.A.’s, Jada Brister of Van Wert took a solo run around the obstacle course at the Decatur-Adams County Parks and Recreation’s Olympic celebration Saturday evening at the county Service Complex. Inclement weather kept participation in the Olympic-style events to a minimum as only two teams were formed for the competition.

Wage hike request falls on deaf county council ears

    Adams County Auditor Mary Beery requested Adams County Councilors increase the pay of the deputy auditors in her department at their regular monthly meeting last week, but the request was met with considerable opposition.

BMS crowns spelling bee champion

Bellmont Middle School eighth-grader Madison Neher correctly spelled the word “serephic” to claim first place in the BMS Spelling Bee held last week.
Neher, the 14 year old daughter of Chris and Jana Neher,  bested 31 other spellers from the middle school and endured through 19 rounds of spelling (including the word “erstwhile” in the 18th round) to capture the championship.  

Braves finish hectic week with 4-1 showing at Super Six

    INDIANAPOLIS — Bellmont capped off one of the busiest eight days in the history of the program, going 4-1 and losing only to No. 17 Carmel at the North Central Super Six Saturday.
    The Braves, 10-4 in the 14 meets during that period and 8-1 this week, had solid wins over Lawrence North, 34-21, and Center Grove, 43-18, to go with a 72-6 rout of Chatard, and a 75-6 blitzing of North Central.
