Flying jets are regional champs!!!

    WHITING—Adams Central's varsity boys baseball team made the trek back to the most northwestern part of the state near Chicago once again on Monday night to finish what they started on Saturday in the regional baseball hosted at Oil City Stadium.
    While things got interesting down the stretch, it was the end result that mattered most as one fan shouted several times after the final out, "It was worth it!"

Area schools hold graduation ceremonies Sunday

    Sunday was Graduation Day across Adams County.
    Bellmont, Adams Central and South Adams all held ceremonies beginning at 2 p.m.
    Among speakers at the commencements were Bellmont valedictorian David Baker, Adams Central valedictorian Dusty Gremaux, and South Adams valedictorian Evan Liechty.

    Adams Central valedictorian Dusty Gremaux and salutatorian Blaine Aschliman were featured speakers at Sunday's graduation ceremonies.
    Gremaux is the daughter of Constance and Jim Gremaux of Decatur and is a four-year member of Literati, Adams Central's book club; a three-year member of the National Honors Society, art club, and Business Professionals of America, and served one year on the Student Council.

ABATE gathers in Decatur for Mayor's Ride

    Well over 1,000 motorcycles came riding into Decatur on US 224 West on Sunday as Region 0 of ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) staged its third Mayor's Ride here in five years.
    The group settled in an area around the courthouse square and held numerous activities, including music, stunt riding by Josh Borne, and more.
    Rain held off until around 3 p.m., when most of the activities were concluded.

    William M. "Bill" Schaadt, 72, Chattanooga, Ohio, passed away as a result of cancer on Saturday June 1, 2013, at his home.
    Bill was born to the late Victor and Luella (Affolder) Schaadt on August 15, 1940, in Mercer County, Ohio.
    He married Judy Ousley on Septembr 23, 1964, in Berne; she preceded him in death. He later married LaDonna McCullough Case on April 23, 1977; she survives.

Busy Sunday on tap here

    Sunday is going to be a busy one in Decatur, one like we haven't had since the last time over 1,000 motorcycle riders hit town.
    ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Toward Education) officials said the riders should arrive via US 224 West around noon, then move to the courthouse square.
    At 2 p.m., Bellmont High School will hold graduation exercises for the Class of 2013, Meanwhile, the large monthly flea market will be operating through the morning and early afternoon hours at Riverside Center.

    David Baker and Michael Braun will address their classmates Sunday as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the 2013 graduating class at Bellmont High School.
    Graduation ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
    Baker is the  son of Ted and Debbie Baker. Braun is the son of Larry and Jean Braun.

Liechty, Hreha lead SA seniors

    Evan Liechty has been named valedectorian of the South Adams High School graduating class of 2013, and Megan Hreha is the salutatorian.
    Graduation ceremonies will start at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium.
    Liechty, the son of Kent and Teri Liechty, has  grade point average (GPA) of 4.16. Hreha is the daughter of Steve and Susie Hreha and has a 4.11 GPA.

Squaws eye state track title

    In advance of Saturday's IHSAA state finals meet in girls track, pollsters finally did something that had been warranted all year and that was to put the Bellmont Squaws in the top 10 of the state.
    The message to other teams throughout Indiana is clear: that even though schools in northeast Indiana are without question the leader in the state in girls track, anyone who underestimates the ability of the Squaws will have to answer to Alexis Harvey, or Holly Hankenson, or Bailee Hankenson, or Emily Gunsett, or Bailey Beery.

Ossian bank held up by armed trio

    A PNC Bank along State Road 1 in Ossian was held up Wednesday afternoon by three armed men.
    They entered the bank and made their way to the vault, waving pistols.
    The FBI office in Fort Wayne said the men entered the bank at 2:42 p.m.
