Officer Corey Hamm of the Decatur Police Department was among several law enforcement officers from throughout Adams County to take part in the Fraternal Order of Police’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event to benefit needy children in the community. In total, 33 county youngsters were selected to participate in the shopping spree, held Sunday at the Decatur Walmart store.

BERNE — With only five experienced wrestlers in the lineup, and yielding 24 points worth of forfeits in each round, Barry Humble's South Adams wrestlers went a respectable 2-3 in the 13th annual Spencer Haworth Invitational Saturday.
Delta, after a surprising 44-43 win over Jay County, took top team honors at 5-0. Jay lost just the one time while Union City and Woodlan both went 2-3 and Eastbrook 0-5.
Raymond L. Gibson, 75, Monroeville, passed away at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at his residence following an extended illness, however his death was unexpected.
Ray was born Monday, Aug. 22, 1938, in Monroeville, the son of the late Lloyd and Dorothy (Baker) Gibson. He married Mary Jo Weaver Oct. 19, 1957, in Auburn; she survives.
Joseph E. Kipfer, 90, Bluffton, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Christian Care Retirement Community.
Joseph was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Adams County, the son of the late Aaron and Mary (Steffen) Kipfer. He married Marie E. Gerber Jan. 19, 1947, in Bluffton; she passed away Jan. 31, 2004.
Sarah M. Mendez, 81, Monroeville, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013, at Adams Heritage in Monroeville.

Hadley D. Moser, Berne, infant daughter of Grant and Alyssa (Miller) Moser was stillborn Dec. 4, 2013.
Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Matt and Beth Miller; and Jill Moser, both of Berne; great-grandparents, Don and Coretta Sipe of Berne; Arleen Miller of New Corydon; and Claren and Darleen Lehman of Berne; an aunt, Taylor Miller of Berne; and two uncles, Clark and Heath Moser, both of Berne.
David A. Nutt, 78, Decatur died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Amberg, Wis., Sept. 21, 1935, to the late Gaylord N. and Pauline (Wolford) Nutt.
He is survived by a son, David A. (Siearra) Nutt Jr. and a daughter, Elizabeth A. Lloyd, both of Decatur; two sisters, Rose Smith of Decatur and Gail Stevens of Woodburn; and two grandchildren.
Paula Thieme, 92, Decatur passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, in the Adams Woodcrest Nursing Center in Decatur.
She was born Saturday, Aug. 27, 1921, in Adams County, the daughter of the late Martin and Emma (Hockemeyer) Thieme.
Paula was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Decatur, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid of the church. She retired from General Electric with more than 43 years of service.
More than two dozen boys and girls from Adams County got some warm clothes and a toy or two at the Decatur Walmart store on Sunday, courtesy of the Adams County Fraternal Order of Police. The FOP accepts donations and raises money throughout the year to hold the annual event, in which children in need are treated to an hour-long shopping spree with an officer from one of the law enforcement agencies in the county. Following their shopping trip, the children were treated to pizza at Pizza King.
