The Decatur Fire Department was dispatched three times Saturday, the most serious of those incidents – a fire in an apartment building – being the last call of the day.
At 7:33 p.m. firefighters responded to a report of a shrub fire at the apartment of Terry Mayo, 1131 S. Hampton Dr. When firefighters arrived, they discovered the attic area of the apartment was engulfed, according to a spokesperson for the department.
Work continues at a steady pace at the site of the now-demolished former street department/city utility building.
Decatur Street/Sanitation Superintendent Jeremy Gilbert said Friday that the project is some 70 percent complete.
Roy Lee Bisel, 68, of Roll, Indiana, died Friday at his residence.
Among survivors are two sons, John (Betty) Bisel of Bluffton and Mike (Cathy) Bisel of Roll, and two daughters, Jennifer Bisel and Stephanie Bisel, both of Bluffton.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
Alvin T. "Ollie" Witte, 81, of Decatur, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at his residence.
Alvin was born on Wednesday, March 2, 1932, in Adams County to the late Wilhelm E. and Anna (Weber) Witte.
He married Shirley M. Schaper on May 29, 1960, in Zion Lutheran Church, Bull Rapids, in Woodburn, Ind; she survives in Decatur.
Marjorie E. Ulman, 87, Berne, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Swiss Village.
Marjorie was born November 4, 1925, to the late Chauncey and Lillian (Bohren) Yoder.
She married Ralph R. Ulman on May 8, 1954; he preceded her in death.
MONROE—The returning champion Lady Jets hosted this season’s ACAC tournament on Friday and Saturday along with South Adams, Leo, and Bluffton.
With the completion of the regular season ACAC schedule, Leo already earned the team championship with a perfect 3-0 mark, while the Lady Jets took second at 2-1, Bluffton third at 1-2, and the Starfires finishing last at 0-3.

NEW HAVEN—Seven first place finishes, four conference and four school records, four blue ribbons for sprinter Alexis Harvey and three for teammate Holly Hankenson propelled the Bellmont Squaws to 131.5 points in the annual NHC girls track meet at the Patrick D. Monaghan Track and Field facility at New Haven High School Friday night.
Lois A. Fegley, 93, of rural Van Wert County, passed away Thursday, May 2, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
Lois was born January 1, 1920, in Craigville, Ind., to the late Clarence R. and Anna E. (Gahman) Abbott.
She married Chester Lloyd Fegley on May 11, 1941; he preceded her in death on May 7, 2003.
Berniece Lehmann, 96, of Berne, died Wednesday at Swiss Village.
Among survivors are four daughters, Shirley (Ed) Prentiss and Karen (Roy) Lehman, both of Berne; Wanda (Paul) Smith of Columbus Grove, Ohio; and Arlene (Beth) Lehmann of Goshen; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at First Mennonite Church.
Irena I. Sprunger, 94, Berne, died Thursday.
