Monument fountain having problems

September 9, 2013

The restored fountain at the Peace Monument on the courthouse square was working again late last week, but continues to have problems.
It had been turned on a couple of days prior to the August 26 rededication ceremony, but was turned off three days later when some lining inside the area to which the water flows came loose (blue lining seen in photo).
Then, when it was turned on again last week, some leaks were discovered, so it may be off again soon.

Squaws take 2nd at Spencerville; Beery breaks records

September 9, 2013

SPENCERVILLE, OHIO—Two long-time girls cross country records fell by the wayside Saturday as Bellmont and South Adams participated in the Spencerville Bearcat Cross Country Invitational.
Bellmont coach Carl Risch had predicted that sophomore speedster Bailey Beery would probably break the BHS school record at some point this year and Beery didn't wait long as she pounded out a blistering 18:38.6 on the certified Spencerville course to win the race over 146 other runners.

Today 15th in row with no rain here

September 6, 2013

Make it 15, an unlucky 15. Today marks the 15th consecutive day Decatur has received no significant rainfall.
And the National Weather Service gives little hope of that changing in the days ahead.
Much of Indiana keeps drying out with little rainfall in recent weeks, according to an Associated Press story. The U.S. Drought Monitor’s weekly report released Thursday lists much of Indiana’s midsection and parts of its northern counties as abnormally dry, which is the lowest drought condition.
