John Paul McAhren, 72, Bakersfield, Calif., entered Heaven's gates to be with his Savior on Sept. 20, 2013.
John was born in Fort Wayne on Dec. 28, 1940 to the late Paul and Geraldine (Parrish) McAhren. John married Joyce (Daniels) on Oct. 19, 1961 and she survives.
John graduated from Decatur High School in 1959 and continued on to receive an undergraduate from Fort Wayne Bible College and a masters degree from Huntington University.
Mildred C. Wendel, 84, Decatur, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.

An Indiana Department of Transportation plan to elevate U.S. 224 in the area at the Bellmont High School entrance to a short distance south of the East Monroe Street intersection continues to raise concerns among some residents.
Brad McBride, owner-operator of McBride & Son Welding at the intersection of Jackson Street and U.S. 224, was on hand for Tuesday night’s Decatur City Council meeting, along with three other men, to discuss the matter.

The Bellmont volleyball program celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday as the Squaws hosted the Norwell Knights. The 10 seniors involved with the volleyball team, eight players and two managers, gathered for a photo before the match. They are, in front from left, Taylor Rhymer, Emily Roman and Liv Fuelling. In back are manager Chabelle Lawler, Madison Glancy, Bailee Hankenson, Holly Hankenson, Natalie Busse, Jessah Okoniewski and manager Ivy Settlemyer.

After shutting down the Bluffton Tigers on Monday night, the Squaws turned their attention to another Wells County team on Tuesday as Bellmont swept Norwell on senior night 25-22, 25-11, 25-23.
With eight seniors to juggle in the line-up, coach Craig Krull started an out of the ordinary group on the floor consisting of all fourth year players. The set-up worked well out of the gate as Bellmont led 8-4 but the Knights maintained a pesky few points back the entire opening set frustrating the Squaws at times with their spirited effort on defense.
Tonight is Senior Night at the Teepee as the Squaws host the Norwell Lady Knights on the volleyball court. Despite the fact that not one bracket was flawless, Sondra Anweiler was the only contestant in this week's Pigskin Picks contest to get only one game wrong and is the winner. Virginia Haugk and Timothy Anweiler finished 2nd in the results winning prizes as well with just two wrong. The former Community Markets in Decatur got a new sign, and a new store philosophy, on Monday. The market, now called Sack & Save, has pared down its inventory to feature only the most popular consumer items and now reportedly has a bag-your-own policy. The Berne Community Market was not part of the change.

Former Decatur Storm Water Management Director Joan Eichhorn is scheduled to make an appearance in Adams County Circuit Court at 2 p.m. Thursday for a change of plea/sentencing hearing.
The former city employee is expected at that time to accept or reject a plea bargain agreement reportedly negotiated by the county prosecutor and Eichhorn's attorneys.
