Spring is here and the flowers for the downtown pots are growing at this time.
The planned planting date is Saturday, May 18., according to Pastor Dan York, who heads up the annual effort and cares for the plants through the season.
Those wishing to help should be on be on the east side of the courthouse for instructions at 8:30 a.m., York said.
The weather has finally improved, outdoor fun is everywhere, ball games have started, and lots of dogs are being walked.
Here's another sure sign of the coming summer: the city's Operation Cleanup is once again in operation.
There will be a new twist added this year. "This year we are going to start doing businesses that won't clean up," Mayor John Schultz said at this week's city council meeting. "We will be glad to work with them, but we want to get something done."

MONROE—With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jets' left fielder Matt Schwaller did what Adams Central has done well all season long, win games late.
Facing a full count and a 0-0 score, Schwaller blasted a walk-off solo homerun to lift the Jets to a victory over the visiting Churubusco Eagles, 1-0, in game one of their doubleheader.

The Braves ended their four-game losing skid on Friday night as they hosted the Huntington North Vikings from 4A.
Bellmont ended their offensive woes in a big way earning an 11-1 victory over the Vikings in a six-inning affair that was closed by three Braves' runs in the bottom half of the last inning.
Pauline Selking, 91, of Decatur, passed away at 5 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Pauline was born on Friday, July 1, 1921, in Edgerton, Ohio, to the late Elmer A. and Julia F. (Zeigler) Edwards.
She married Robert Louis Selking on April 29, 1940, in New Haven; he passed away in 1984.
Virginia Ilene Elder, 82, of Plymouth, Ind., passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at her residence.
Virginia was born in Portland on April 30, 1931, to the late Merle and Anna (McFarland) Smiley.
She married Donald Elder, who survives.
Deborah R. Cross, 52, of Middle Point, Ohio, passed away Monday, May 6, at her residence.
Deborah was born February 14, 1961, in Decatur, to Kenny and Kathy (Ratliff) Prichard; her father preceded her in death.
She enjoyed gardening, animals, cooking, and riding motorcycles. She was a customer service representative at several places, and she was employed at Hearth & Home in Van Wert, Ohio, when she passed.
Daniel R. Everett, 83, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center. Dan was born Saturday, August 17, 1929, in Adams County to the late Perry and Bessie (Irwin) Everett.
He married Lois D. Buuck on September 12, 1948, in Decatur; she passed away on March 7, 2007.
Mary Ellen Martin, 91, of Vera Cruz, passed away at 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
Born on January 22, 1922, in Keenesburg, Ill., to the late James C. and Mary M. (Hedge) Lovellette, Mary married Ervin O. Martin in Monroe, on May 16, 1937; he preceded her in death on April 8, 1987.
Paul T. Stuckey, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Coventry Meadows LLC in Fort Wayne.
Born in Indianapolis, Paul worked as a custodian with Fort Wayne Community Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1980, and also in security at Raytheon until he was 90 years old. Paul was a U S Marine Corps WW II Panama Canal veteran.
