Icy road conditions on I-69 in Huntington County on Tuesday caused an Adams County Sheriff's Department transport officer escorting two adult prisoners to the Department of Corrections near Indianapolis to lose control of his squad car, resulting in heavy damage to the vehicle.
ACSD Chief Deputy Eric Beer said this morning that veteran reserve officer Fritz Bultemeyer, rural Decatur, was southbound on I-69 when the car hit a patch of ice on the road, causing it to spin out of control and into a nearby field where it struck a fence.
Police in the Holland, Michigan, area have Wade R. Cron, a 26-year-old Decatur resident, in custody.
Cron will be returned to Decatur as soon as arrangements can be made by law-enforcement authorities here.
Cron is wanted here on a charge of criminal confinement, a class D felony.

Numerous police were in and around the mobile home court on S. 13th St. early Tuesday afternoon in search of a probation violator.
It is believed that one mobile home was entered, but the unidentified person was not found.
The city's new police dog was called out at one point, but tracking was difficult for the dog due to the rainy weather.
Colleen J. Hodge, 64, of Berne, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013, in Indianapolis.
She was born on March 25, 1948, to the late Chris and Florence (Liechty) Biberstine in Adams County.
Colleen was a member of the West Missionary Church and was employed at Tyson Foods, Portland. In the past she worked for Dunbar Furniture, Berne Apparel, and CTS Corp. She enjoyed reading, making and sending colorful cards, and especially loved her family.

BERNE—From the opening tip until the final horn, Adams Central left no doubt that their regular season opening win against Churubusco was no fluke.
The Jets (13-7) took care of business in the opening round of sectional play at South Adams Tuesday night earning a convincing 54-33 win over the Eagles (4-19) to advance to Friday night's semi-final match-up with title favorite Bishop Luers.
Adams Central had won with a similar score, 51-34, in the opener.
North Adams officials announced at 1 p.m. today that all evening activities have been called off.
No word had yet been received on boys Sectional basketball games at South Adams, where the Starfires and Adams Central are scheduled to play in separate games, or Norwell, where Bellmont is on tap to play.

At 1 p.m., the temperature in Decatur stood at 34 degrees.
Two pieces of playground equipment at Berne's Lehman Park, deemed by the city's insurance carrier to be unsafe, will be sent to the scrap heap following a decision Monday by the city council not to permit the equipment to be utilized by an independent organization.
New playground equipment will be installed in Lehman Park this spring, and the city council for months has wrestled over where the new equipment will be placed and what would be the fate of several old playground devices.
Just nine days after suffering a near-fatal heart attack, Berne City Council President Gregg Sprunger was in his usual seat Monday evening as the council met for its regularly-scheduled meeting.
Sprunger appeared slightly pale and spoke softly, but nonetheless contributed to several spirited discussions throughout the evening.
Viola Dennison, 95, of Berne, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013, at Swiss Village.
She was born on November 25, 1917, to the late Daniel and Barbara (Liechty) Habegger in Adams County.
She married Claude Dennison on November 10, 1945; he preceded her in death.
Colleen Hodge, 64, of Berne, died Monday.
