At the county commissioners' meeting on Monday, Sheriff Shane Rekeweg was approved to break the hiring freeze to fill upcoming part-time openings in the his department's kitchen and dispatch areas.

The spring book sale at the Decatur branch of the Adams Public Library System will run from Sunday, April 14, through Sunday, April 20, during regular hours.
The library is open from 1-5 p.m. Sundays, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Many books for all ages and interests will be available, according to a library announcement, plus free magazines, and movies ranging from educational offerings to regular theater-style releases.

After weeks of unusually cold weather resulting in a mixture of snow and rain, then a spring break thrown in the mix, Monday night's opening day game against Norwell was the first time the South Adams Starfires baseball team had a chance to play on their diamond at Harry F. Anderson Field.
The result was almost a surprising one until the Knights put up three big runs in the top of the seventh to edge out the Stars, 6-5, improving to 3-1 on the season.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities in northeastern Indiana are forming a consortium that would allow one county to take over for another if a disaster wiped out that county’s 911 communication system and could lead to officials one day consider a regional dispatch center.
Unemployment in Adams County dipped slightly to 8.5 percent during February, according to figures released Friday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The county posted an 8.8 percent jobless rate in January when those figures were released just 10 days ago. One year ago, in February of 2012, the county's unemployment rate was at 8.3 percent.
Friday's report showed that 1,218 members of the county's workforce of 14,383 remained without work during the year's second month.
Adams County Auditor Mary Beery has announced that property tax bills are expected to be mailed by the end of April, following the Indiana Department of Local Gover-nment Finance’s certification of the county’s 2013 budget order and tax rates.
The budget certification puts the county in a position to have property taxes due on May 10.

Bellmont Braves basketball coach John Baker is leading the field with 60 points with three of his Final Four teams left but Kansas, his national champion selection, is out leaving the field open still.
