Ohio landmark will soon be reduced to memories

    A local landmark will shutter its doors come late December.
    The  J & J Butler General Store, located just across the state line in Willshire, Ohio, is officially going out of business after 28 years of dedicated small-town service.
    The corner store, located at the town’s only traffic signal just off U.S. 33, was started by Joe Butler in 1985.

Eidam’s ‘interim’ tag is removed

    Adams Memorial Hospital interim chief executive officer JoEllen Eidam officially had the word “interim” removed from her title Wednesday night at a meeting of the Adams Health Network Board of Trustees at the Woodcrest Campus Center.
    Eidam has served since January 1 as an interim CEO since former director Thomas J. Nordwick resigned.

EARLY MORNING OOPS

November 1, 2013

 The morning got off to an inauspicious beginning today in Decatur when shortly before 7 a.m. a truck driver and his semi trailer became separated at the intersection of 13th and Monroe streets. The loaded trailer ended up near the parking lot at CVS pharmacy, causing traffic control headaches for local law enforcement.

Secretary of State warns seniors of ‘red flag’ signs of investment scams

    Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson told an audience at the Woodcrest Campus Center Wednesday that if a solicitation to invest hard-earned funds sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
    Lawson spoke to about 20 people on the topic of “Seniors and Investment Fraud” and outlined how her office is standing ready to help persons, especially senior citizens, strike back against scam artists who prey on elderly victims.

Geneva says Trick-or-Treat is now Friday

Due to the likelihood of inclement weather this evening, officials in the town of Geneva have moved Trick-or-Treat hours, originally scheduled for later today, to Friday between the hours of 5:30-7 p.m.

Decatur tonight

Wes Kuntzman, director of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, reported Wednesday that Decatur’s community-wide Trick-or-Treat event will still be held today. Those who do not wish to be outside may Trick-or-Treat at Woodcrest and Evergreen Court from 3-6 p.m. or at Walmart from 4-6 pm.

AC leader deflects ‘creationism’ criticism

    The science curriculum at Adams Central Schools has been targeted for criticism by a worldwide organization working “to protect the principle of separation between church and state.” And officials at the school have deflected that criticism.

The annual Berne Halloween Parade, sponsored by the Berne Democratic Party Central Committee, was held Tuesday evening in the city.
