Gene R. Williamson

November 11, 2013

    Gene R. Williamson, 75, Decatur, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
    Gene was born Saturday, April 9, 1938, in Decatur to the late Earl N. 'Dutch' and Helen May (Brown) Williamson. He married Helen M Roth Aug. 30, 1957, in Adams County; she survives.

South Adams stuns Knights for title in OT

    WABASH— South Adams' senior Klayton Hinshaw summed it up nicely while hoisting the sectional trophy and addressing the team after the game.
    "17 years, baby!"
    The number referenced by one of the Stars' top lineman was of course how long it has been since SA has won a sectional title. On Friday night South Adams defeated Southwood in an overtime thriller, 40-39, giving the Berne boys their fifth title in school history and first since 1996.

Fewer funds for hungry families

    November 1 marked the end of the 2009 federal stimulus package which provided additional income for participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s food stamp program. The expiration of stimulus funding has resulted in a reduction in benefits received by SNAP recipients of 7 percent, or $10 per month per person, according to northeast Indiana Family and Social Services Deputy Director of Communications Marnie Lemons.

North Adams officials stay abreast of hunger issues

  Many participants in the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s food stamp program whose benefits were reduced beginning this month are children, according to Erin Ripley, food service director for North Adams Community Schools. Ripley said school officials recognized the challenges many students face each evening and weekends, when food may not be as readily available.

Zurcher expansion gets unofficial OK from Monroe council

    The Monroe Town Council on Thursday night heard a presentation from Brett Miller, MLS Engineering and Land surveyor, and Paul Zurcher, owner of Zurcher Tire Company, seeking the council’s permission to approach the Adams County Plan Commission in December concerning the expansion of their current building. Zurcher Tire is hoping to build a 20,000-square-foot warehouse addition to the company’s existing building.

Central, SA v-ball honored for conference play

    Five Lady Jets and a pair of Starfires were named to the all-ACAC volleyball teams this week as well as members from the other six conference schools.

Starfire's to compete for sectional title

The South Adams Starfires’ upset victory over county rival Adams Central in sectional football play on Nov. 1, coupled with the untimely exit from the tournament trail the following day of the Bellmont volleyball squad, leaves South Adams as the last fan base standing in Adams County. Those fans are certain to be vocal when the Stars travel to Southwood Friday night for the sectional title game.
