John J. “Jack” Hunter, 89, of Bluffton, passed away at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton.
Jack was born September 1, 1923, in Decatur, to Joseph and Francis (Baker) Hunter.
Growing up, he was very active in the Boy Scouts, obtaining his Eagle Scout award and later serving as a Scout leader for several years. He graduated from Decatur High School before enlisting in the United States Navy Air Corp during World War II.
Gerald Michael “Mike” Kohne, 77, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born on April 2, 1936, to the late Dr. Gerald Joseph and Margaret Elizabeth (Sheley) Kohne.
Mike married Bonnie L. Hake on September 11, 1965; she survives in Decatur.
He was the owner of Decatur Package Liquors for 30 years and he also worked for nine years at the Bob Heller Insurance Agency.
Several changes will be taking place at Adams Central over the next year with four more teachers announcing their intention to retire at the end of the 2012-13 school year, accepting the one-time $15,000 retirement incentive package approved by the board of education last month.
The incentive offered qualifying teachers a $15,000 payout that would be placed in a 403(b) account and made available to the retiree as of July 15, 2013. The regular severance package offered to teachers is still immediately available.
Lunch prices at North Adams Community Schools will increase next year, and the hike is entirely due to mandates being handed down by the federal government, school board members were told Tuesday.
Erin Ripley, food service director for the school district, reported to the board that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has developed a statistical formula for its National School Lunch Program and has set a minimum price for school lunches. "The control has kind of been taken out of our hands," Ripley said.

The first major non-snow storm of the season hit the Decatur area in a big way on Wednesday, dropping 2.79 inches of rain on the city by 7 a.m. today
Making matters worse, rain was continuing after 7 a.m. and was likely to continue into the night.
The St. Marys River swelled some 13 1/2 feet overnight, rising from 4.06 feet at 7 a.m. Wednesday to 17.67 feet at 7 a.m. today.
For the girls, SA won just five of the 15 events but managed to earn enough points for the victory with 62, while Garrett was just behind at 51 points and AC finished third with 43.
The Railroaders were winners of two of the three relays but the Stars won the 3200 Relay behind the strength of Kristen Muselman, Aleesha Goodwin, Lily Shane, and Katelyn Hawbaker who finished with a time of 11:57.6.

Kathryn was born on February 25, 1917, in Adams County, to the late George W. and Clara J. (Mauller) Hill.
On September 25, 1938, she married David C. Wynn; he preceded her in death on October 24, 1989.
Kathryn was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Builders Sunday School class, the United Methodist Women and was also a member of the Decatur Order of Eastern Star 127. She was a homemaker.
The well-oiled Bellmont girls track machine kept humming on all cylinders Tuesday night pounding out decisive victories over Northeast Hoosier Conference foes New Haven and DeKalb.
Bellmont rolled out 85 points compared to 42 for DeKalb and 37 for New Haven.
Former Bellmont High School assistant principal Brent Lehman, a 34-year veteran educator and lifelong Adams County resident, was introduced Tuesday evening as the new superintendent at North Adams Community Schools.
Lehman was one of 10 applicants and five finalists for the position and will succeed Dr. Wylie Sirk when Sirk's retirement takes effect on July 1.
