April 8th
Nicholas Liechty, 32, of Aurora, Colo., passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his residence.
He was born on Monday, February 16, 1981, in Augusta, Ga., to Thomas Liechty and Beth (Wolfe) Rettig.
Deane D. McMillen, 85, of Willshire, Ohio, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
Deane was born on Sunday, April 10, 1927, in Adams County.
He married Hazel A. Strickler on November 20, 1947, in Willshire. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past November; she survives in Willshire.
Deane served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post 207 in Willshire. Deane retired from International Harvester.
Bellmont High School senior Cory Poling has been named the 2013 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar by the Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF).
Poling will receive full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.
Poling, son of Heather Eddins and Cory Poling of Decatur and grandson of Judy and Barry Poling, will attend IPFW this fall and plans to major in pre-med.
An anonymous donor who had agreed to finance Adams County's School Resource Officer program for three years after federal grant funding ends this summer reportedly has rescinded the offer.
A large group of Monroe residents attended last week's town council meeting to hear whether or not the town would donate five acres of land in the Business Park for a new fire station to be built.
Monroe Volunteer Fire Chief Russell Cook told the council during the March meeting the current station is no longer big enough to house the department's equipment.

The City of Decatur is moving ahead with plans to review and update its code book, something which includes a little bit of everything, from ordinances to regulations, to rules, etc.
Mayor John Schultz said at this week's city council meeting that he had a bid for $16,775 from American Legal Publishing Corp. of Cincinnati, Ohio, to handle the time-consuming process.
A bill authored by State Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne, to allow school corporations to sell vacant school buildings after the building is made available for sale or lease to a charter school for at least two years was signed into law by Gov. Mike Pence this week.
According to Lehman's press secretary Kim Heffner, prior to the passage of HB 1012, such sales were allowed after four years. The bill also allows a school district to request a 30-day waiver from the Indiana Department of Education negating the two year requirement.
