It may seem a bit hard to believe, given this spring's weather, but plans are being formulated for Decatur's annual Fourth of July fireworks show.
Longtime chief organizer Adam Eguia was on hand at Tuesday night's Decatur City Council meeting to outline some details for the 21st fireworks display and to request the city's annual financial contribution of $375, which was granted, along with permission to hold the event.
Volunteers from Golden Meadows Home are contacting Adams County businesses, groups and individuals regarding the donation of products, services, or gift certificates for Golden Meadows' 19th annual auction.
The auction, which benefits the Special Needs Resident Fund at the home – will be held on Saturday, June 8, beginning at 10 a.m. on the facility's grounds at 3646N 200E in rural Decatur.

KENDALLVILLE—A highly anticipated match-up between two of the state's top sprinters turned out decidedly in Bellmont's favor Tuesday night in a Northeast Hoosier Conference girls track triangular meet at East Noble.
The Squaws easily won with 80 points while the host Knights were second at 50 and Homestead was a distant third at 37 in a meet that also featured a new Bellmont school record in the long jump.

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick says no unexploded bombs were found at the Boston Marathon. He says the only explosives were the ones that went off Monday.
Three people were killed, including an 8-year-old boy, by two explosions just seconds apart near the finish line.
Police commissioner Ed Davis says 176 victims came to hospitals around Boston, and 17 of those are in critical condition.

Marine Jacob Falk graduated from Adams Central High School in 2008. He has since gone on to serve two terms in Afghanistan during some of the most heated parts of the war.
Falk's job during his term of service was to transport supplies; a task that couldn't be taken lightly.
While in Afghanistan, Falk asked that a flag be raised on his base in honor of Adams Central Community Schools. Last Friday, Falk brought that flag and a certificate of authenticity to present to the school.
Lucas Strickler, 14, a seventh grader at Wyneken School, was the winner in the Daily Democrat's Bracket Challenge contest.
His bracket piled up the most points and he correctly predicted that Louisvile would win the NCAA basketball tournament title.

Coni Mayer of the Adams Community Foundation came to the commissioners on Monday with local library director Kelly Ehinger to request the use of the courthouse lawn for the Decatur Sculpture Tour in June.
Bellmont's 0-3 start was given no leniency on Monday night when the Leo Lady Lions came to town and took a five-inning 16-0 decision from the Squaws at home.
A no-hit effort from Lions' pitcher Jessica Claxton was not entirely necessary but effective nonetheless as the Squaws reached first base on a Nicole Schevenius walk in the second inning but would get no further on the paths Monday night.
David Eugene Dailey, 77, of Berne, passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Chalet Village in Berne.
David was born on Tuesday, February 4, 1936, in Willshire, Ohio, to the late Stanton R. and Margaret (Brandt) Dailey. He was a lifelong farmer.
Among survivors are three sisters, Alma Kable and Katherine Blair, both of Fort Wayne, and Margorie Dodane of Kingman, Ariz.; and a brother, Charles (Ilene) Dailey of Berne.

That was about all on which the Decatur Park Board and the Adams County Park Board could agree during a brief joint meeting on Thursday afternoon.
The two boards had met independently three days earlier, and each group heard a proposal to incorporate the two bodies into one board that would oversee the city-county parks and recreation department.
