Paul A. Amstutz

    Reverend Paul A. Amstutz, 85, Mt. Morris, Michigan, formerly of Berne, died Tuesday.
    Among survivors are his wife, M. Jean (Andrews) Amstutz; two sons, David (Carrie) Amstutz of Gladwin and Dan (Barbara) Amstutz of Grand Island, Fla.; and daughter, Helyn (Craig) Smith of Flint.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on February 9 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Flint, Mich. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in New Lothrop, Mich.

Sewer board nearing decision

    The Adams County Regional Sewer District's board of directors may be nearing a decision on the future of a proposed $4.5 million sewer project to serve the rural areas of northern Adams County.

Minnich to exit at AC – AD has been at school 39 years

    Adams Central will mark another end of an era as longtime Athletic Director Rick Minnich submitted his resignation to the Adams Central Board of Education Tuesday night.
    Minnich, who has served AC in various positions for 39 years, said in his letter he  has been blessed and has no regrets in beginning and ending his career at AC. Minnich thanked the school and the community for the help and support he has received during his time at AC.

T-shirts to back Bahrke sell Friday

    T-shirts to support Adams Central eighth grader Tyson Bahrke in his fight against cancer will be available for pre-sale order at the Adams Central-South Adams basketball game on Friday.
    The shirts are $10 apiece, and over half of the proceeds from this will go directly to Tyson's family to help pay for his chemotherapy, an announcement said.
    The shirts will be available for pickup from later AC home games or the elementary school office beginning February 25.

Sawyer, Busse headline state wrestling return

February 14, 2013

    Adams County will have six solid representatives, including returning placers Sawyer Miller of South Adams and Bellmont senior Brad Busse, in Friday night's preliminary round of the IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.
    Busse, seventh last year at 182 pounds, returns to that weight as a senior and will go in again as a semi-state champ. Miller took fourth as a freshman at 106 pounds and will be in the 113-pound class, coming in as a third-placer from Fort Wayne.

Robert L. Beitler

    Robert L. Beitler, 81, of Pendleton, Ind., passed away on February 11, 2013, at his residence.
    He was born May 20, 1931, in Monroe, Ind., and resided most of his life in Pendleton.

David A. Runyon

February 13, 2013

    David A. Runyon, 55, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana.
    He was born on Thursday, June 6, 1957, in Bluffton, Ind., to Floyd Runyon, who passed away in 2004, and Evelyn (Messick) Runyon, who passed away in 2012.
    David married Cathy Cable on November 26, 1983, in Bluffton; she survives in Decatur.

Flora D. Wright

    Flora D. Wright, 69, formerly of Decatur, died on Monday.
    Among survivors is her daughter, Bobbi Kelly of Fort Wayne.
    Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday at River of Life Church, 927 N Main St., Bluffton. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, also at the church.
    Burial will be at Marion National Cemetery.

Superior court to get new building - No location decided upon

    The Adams County Council was joined in its monthly meeting on Tuesday by the Adams County Commissioners.
    The council and the commissioners agreed that new superior court accommodations will be in a standalone building, and the county will not add on to or renovate any current buildings for the project.

McKean praises Berne unity in death of Taylor

    The way in which Berne united following the death in 2012 of Spc. Nick Taylor, killed in Afghanistan while serving as a member of the Indiana National Guard, was an example of the community's strength and resolve of Berne and demonstrated why the city "is a great place to call home," Mayor Bill McKean said Tuesday during his second annual State of the City address.
    McKean gave his remarks during a noon luncheon hosted by the Berne Chamber of Commerce.
