Chambers to host an econ forum

April 19, 2013

    The Decatur and Berne chambers of commerce, in conjunction with First Merchants Bank, will host an Economic Outlook Forum on Tuesday, April 30, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
    The forum will be moderated by John Stafford, the director of IPFW's Community Research Institute. Panelists will include State Rep. Matt Lehman, R-Berne; Adams County Commissioner Doug Bauman, representing agriculture; Josh Krueckeberg, real estate; Larry Macklin, economic development; Brad Lichtenberger, industry; and Dane Wheeler, health care.

Roger W. Burkhart

    Roger W. Burkhart, 66, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness over the last year.
    Roger was born Thursday, August 1, 1946, in Decatur, to the late Charles F. and Helen M. (Stewart) Burkhart.
    He married Harriet S. Bercot on March 1, 1986, at Decatur Church of God; she survives in Decatur.
    Roger was a member of the Salem Community Church and was a lifelong farmer in the Salem area.

Ronald L. Holcomb

    Ronald Laveral Holcomb, 79, of Kingman, Ariz., died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at his residence.
    Ronald was born May 8, 1936, in Boaz, Ala., to the late E. C. and Elizabeth Holcomb.
    He married Ruth Gail Clark on September 24, 1955; she preceded him in death.
    Ronald worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne for many years until his retirement.

Robert L. Litwiller

    Robert L. Litwiller, 78, Berne, died Thursday evening.
    Arrangements are pending at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home.

Adams County under tornado, flood watch

April 18, 2013

    The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Adams County until 5 p.m. today. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable to produce a tornado.
    Adams County also remains under a flood watch from 2 p.m. this afternoon through Friday morning.
    We will update this information throughout the day should any new watches or warnings be issued.

    Roger W. Burkhart, 66, of Decatur, died Wednesday.

Irene Krueckeberg

April 18, 2013

    Irene Krueckeberg, 84, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, in Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    Irene was born on Monday, October 15, 1928, in Stuttgart, Germany, to the late Richard and Luzie (Kuhnen) Weber.
    She married Robert H. Krueckeberg on September 25, 1953, in Stuttgart, Germany; he survives in Decatur.

Michael D. Lemmon

    Michael D. Lemmon, 48, of Fort Wayne, departed his earthly home Monday, April 15, 2013, at Lutheran Hospital following a brief illness.
    Michael was a lifelong Fort Wayne resident, Northrop High School graduate, and IUPU graduate. He was a 19-year employee of Press-Seal Gasket Corporation of Fort Wayne. He was an extrusion operator. Michael loved video gaming, was a lover of Christ, and of Christian music. He was the most kind and loving man, husband and father.

Dora R. Tarkington

    Dora R. "Becky" (Burgess) Tarkington, 81, of Berne, formerly of Geneva, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Swiss Village in Berne.
    Becky was born Saturday, January 2, 1932, in Huntertown, Ind., to the late Harlow C. Hart and Pearl Eash-Hart-Shaver.
    She worked for the Berne Police Department as a dispatcher and had also worked as a bookkeeper for the Adams Co. Highway Dept.
