     Editor's Note:  In the Wednesday edition of the Democrat the name of Pam and Steph Smith were inadvertently placed next to the wrong spouse. We apologize for this confusion. Here is a corrected obituary for Ronald Leroy Smith.

Dwight L. Brunner

September 12, 2013

    Dwight L. "Dewey" Brunner, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
    He was born in Decatur on March 27, 1941 to the late Lester and Ethel (Bunner) Brunner.
    Dwight was a dedicated, hardworking employee at Zollner Pistons, retiring after many faithful decades of service.

Mae M. Frauhiger

    Mae M. Frauhiger, 82, of Bluffton, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on September 11, 2013.
    She was born February 17, 1931, to the late Howard and Hazel (Blair) Mowery in Wells County.
    Mae married Jerry E. Frauhiger on December 28, 1956 in Bluffton; he survives.
    A 1949 graduate of Bluffton High School, Mae co-owned Happy's Place Tavern in Berne with her husband for 23 years.

Ralph "Ed" Langston

    Ralph "Ed" Langston, 60, of Piqua, Ohio, died at 8:26 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Piqua Manor Nursing Home.
    He was born July 12, 1953 in Piqua to Richard Langston and the late Esther B. (McGillvary) Langston of Piqua. He married Janice M. Matchett; and she survives.

Claudine Trotter Mansfield

     Claudine Trotter Mansfield, 91, of Decatur, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    She was born September 25, 1921, in Birmingham, Ala., to the late Benjamin and Myrtle (Glenn) Trotter. She married the late John P. Sr. on December 17, 1944.    

Genevieve Reiter Wiehe

    Genevieve Reiter Wiehe, 81, of New Haven died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
    Genevieve was born in Fort Wayne to the late Paul and Marie (Bultemeier) Reiter.
    She graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School and was an active member of Martini Lutheran Church and the Concordia Alumni Association. She was an administrative assistant at ITT Corp. for over 35 years.

SA board wrestles with mat purchase

    The South Adams Schools board of education struggled with how to handle the potential donation of a wrestling mat by the Gold Wrestling Club and the South Adams Sports Booster's Club during Tuesday evening's monthly meeting. At issue was a request to print the name of Nick Taylor, a South Adams grad who was killed while serving in the military in Afghanistan, on some portion of the mat.

Sex predators, religion policy addressed by NA board

    A policy addressing religion in the curriculum was addressed Tuesday evening by members of the North Adams Community Schools’ board of education. The policy was modified to meet the freedom of expression when it comes to school personnel. As the policy currently stands, a staff member cannot promote or disparage religion.

County sees first real rainfall in 3 weeks

    Adams County residents awoke this morning to the first measurable rainfall in nearly three weeks.
    With no precipitation to speak of since August 22, when the city measured .75” of rain, a spokesperson for the Decatur Sewage Treatment Plant – where area weather is documented – said as of 7 a.m. today .31” has fallen in the Decatur area. The precipitation was hardly what area farmers need to replenish crops, but was a welcome reprieve from the scorching heat hovering over Adams County this week.

Beating the sweltering heat has been a problem for many county residents of late, but a cooling ride in an open-air buggy seemed to be a pleasant alternative for this Amish family recently near Geneva. Much more comfortable temperatures are on tap for the remainder of the week and into the coming weekend.
