Berne native gets AC AD post

    After several months of searching – including the hiring and almost immediate resignation of Roger Newton – Adams Central Schools finally has a new athletic director (AD), filling the void created with the retirement last year of longtime AD Rick Minnich.
    The board of education hired Jerry Amstutz, a Berne native who had applied for the job prior to the hiring of Newton. After hearing of Newton's resignation, Amstutz contacted the school again to express his interest in the position, and the ball was rolling.

NA OKs 2013-14 teacher contract

    The North Adams school board on Tuesday evening approved a contract with the North Adams Teachers Association for 2013-14. The contract contains language that implements a state-mandated method of evaluating teachers and subsequently determining a rate of increase in salaries.

SAdams budget up for adoption

    Although a public hearing on the 2014 budget was scheduled as part of the regular monthly meeting of the South Adams Schools Board of Trustees, there were no members of the public in attendance to comment on the document on Tuesday night.

Dwight L. Brunner

    Dwight L. "Dewey" Brunner, 72, of Decatur, died Tuesday at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.
    Arrangements are pending at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home.

Helen L. Cooper

    Helen L. Cooper, 58, of Decatur passed away at 2:41 a.m. on  Tuesday, September 10, 2013, on U.S. Hwy 33 in Decatur.
    She was born in Dull Town, Ohio, on Monday, September 13, 1954, to William Kahn and the late Laura (Germann) Kahn.
    She married the late Jerry Cooper on November 14, 1986. He passed away in January 2009.
    Helen and her husband, Jerry, farmed in Van Wert County and operated Horse Around Town Carriage Rides in Van Wert.
