Just like T-Birds coach Bobby Corral, I was never a big fan of travel ball in general, and the Cooperstown Dreams Park experience in particular. After spending a week at the Cooperstown Dream Park, like Corral, I've changed my opinion.
The Decatur Thunderbirds have competed together for three years, learning about leadoffs and pitching from the stretch, and being part of a team. They did this while competing in house ball, fulfilling all their obligations along the way. Manager John Macklin and his coaching staff made sure of that.
Jose D. Silva, 57, of Decatur, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at his resdience.
Among survivors are his son, Jose Luis Otero-Silva of Andrews, Texas.

Robert R. "Bob" Toland, 66, of Geneva, died at his home on Sunday.
Among survivors are his wife, Jan Toland of Geneva; a daughter, Cathy (Jeff) Trausch of Geneva, and a son, Mike (Erin) Toland of Geneva.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, at West Missionary Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will follow in Studebaker Cemetery in rural Geneva.
Judy K. Williamson, 74, of Decatur, passed away at her residence on July 5, 2013.
Judy was born July 17, 1938, to Franklin C. and Mary I. (Kohls) Keller in Adams County.
On July 11, 1958, she married Jerry Williamson; he survives in Decatur.
Judy worked for 19 years at C.T.S. in Berne and was also a homemaker. She attended Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland and was a former member of the Tri Kappa Sorority.
She just graduated from college, landed a full-time job that she loves and gets to spend time with her friends and family. What’s the catch? Her work day starts at 3:30 a.m. and she eats dinner for breakfast.
Krista Miller graduated from Bellmont High School in 2009 and moved to Indianapolis where she attended Butler University. She earned a degree in Electronic Journalism and a minor in Political Science.
