Russell L. Plumley

April 22, 2013

    Russell L. Plumley, 77, of Monroeville, Ind., passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at his residence.
    He was born Monday, June 17, 1935, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the late Dewey and Esther (Johnson) Plumley.
    Russell married Dorcas E. Sautbine on September 4, 1954; she passed away on October 4, 2006.

Robert L. Litwiller

    Robert L. Litwiller, 78, Berne, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his home.
    Among survivors are his wife, Marilyn; two sons, Phil (Sonnie) Litwiller of Berne and Scott (Sheri) Litwiller of Berne; two daughters, Becky (Kent) Lehman of Berne and Cindy (Ramon) Garcia of Fishers, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Ann Litwiller of Peoria, Ill.; two sisters, Delores Moorman of Warsaw and Juanita (Jim) Adams of Berne; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grand children.

Sherri L. Longenberger

    Sherri L. Longenberger, 49, of Bluffton, passed away at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at her residence.
    Sherri was born in Adams County on October 11, 1963, to Doyle W. and the late Bonnie L. (Baumgartner) Frauhiger.
    She married Mark A. Longenberger in Bluffton on June 7, 1981; he survives.

Gordon C. Suman

    Gordon C. Suman, 87, of Decatur, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
    He was born in Decatur on April 23, 1925, to the late Harry and Bessie (Drummond) Suman.
    Gordon married Lois Eileen Miller on March 28, 1947, in Van Wert, Ohio; she preceded him in death on June 16, 2007.

Columbia City @ Bellmont, softball CANCELED

         Due to technical difficulties, tonight's broadcast between Columbia City and Bellmont has been cancelled. Sorry for the inconvenience. 

        The next broadcast for Bellmont will be Thursday, April 25 when the Squaws host North Side. As of right now that game will be on as scheduled. 

Squaws take second only to Warsaw at Turtle Town

    CHURUBUSCO—The Bellmont girls track team won the war of blue ribbons Saturday at the Turtle Town Invitational but lost the points battle in finishing second to Warsaw in the Gold Division (larger schools) competition.

River stays under flood stage here

    Despite well over an inch of rain in the past 24 hours, the St. Marys River remained under its flood stage this morning.
    Officials at the city weather station measured the river at 15.85 feet at 7 .m., still under its 17-foot stage. The river stood at 13.05 feet 24 hours earlier.
    The weather station recorded 1.25 inches of rain on Thursday at this morning, up to 7 a.m.

Old building going down

    Demolition of the antiquated former street department building between the police station and city swimming pool got under way on Thursday.
    Denny's Excavating of Plainfield, general contractor for the project, began by tearing down the garage attached to the west side or the original building, which is well over 100 years old and is considered a safety hazard.
    The entire structure could be down by Saturday or the first of next week, officials said. (Photo by Jannaya Andrews)
