Lady Stars get six runs in last frame; stun Patriots, 11-10

    It took six and a half innings to get the hits to fall but finally, after trailing 10-5 to begin the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Starfires managed to find the holes.
    South Adams put up a miraculous six on the scoreboard to shock the Jay County Patriots, 11-10 in their home opener on Tuesday night.
    Down five runs heading into their last three outs, South Adams seemed all but finished but Lauren Smith started off the epic comeback by reaching first on a throwing error by relief pitcher, Abbey Vance.

    Jason D. Andrews, 39, of Marion, formerly of Decatur, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at his residence.
    He was born on September 26, 1973, in Adams County to Jerald D. “Jerry” and Colleen S. (Hamrick) Andrews; they survive in Decatur.
    Among survivors are his sister, Mandy (Cory) Reber of Huntington; brother, Ryan (Lindee) Andrews; paternal grandparents, Albert and Minnie Andrews; and maternal grandmother, Irene Hamrick, all of Decatur.

Carl C. Lotter

    Carl C. Lotter, 69, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at his residence.
    He was born May 21, 1943, in La Porte, Ind., to Ralph G. and Miriam J. (Childs) Lotter.
    On October 29, 1966, he married Marsha L. Thompson; she survives in Monroe.

Brandon J. Mohr Snodgrass

    Brandon J. Mohr Snodgrass, 14, of Bluffton, passed away at 5 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at his residence.
    He was born August 8, 1998, to Brian Blue of Arizona and Tara J. (Sergio) Pernell of Decatur, and was adopted by Walter and Sharolyn Snodgrass of Bluffton. His birth and adoptive parents survive.

Local duo honored for saving life

    A Decatur resident and a former Decatur resident, Kirsten Cochran and Ethan Schorey, were among seven recipients who recently received a Citiznes Meretorious Award from the City of Fort Wayne during a special ceremony.
    Cochran, 19, and Schorey, 21, were honored for their bravery and efforts that helped save the life of an injured driver on October 31, 2012, at Washington Blvd. and Coliseum Blvd. in Fort Wayne.  His vehicle was on top of the driver.

Sheriff part-time hirings approved

    At the county commissioners' meeting on Monday, Sheriff Shane Rekeweg was approved to break the hiring freeze to fill upcoming part-time openings in the his department's kitchen and dispatch areas.

Library book sale to start on April 14

    The spring book sale at the Decatur branch of the Adams Public Library System will run from Sunday, April 14, through Sunday, April 20, during regular hours.
    The library is open from 1-5 p.m. Sundays, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.
    Many books for all ages and interests will be available, according to a library announcement, plus free magazines, and movies ranging from educational offerings to regular theater-style releases.

Three-run seventh for Knights sours Stars’ opener, 6-5

    After weeks of unusually cold weather resulting in a mixture of snow and rain, then a spring break thrown in the mix, Monday night's opening day game against Norwell was the first time the South Adams Starfires baseball team had a chance to play on their diamond at Harry F. Anderson Field.
    The result was almost a surprising one until the Knights put up three big runs in the top of the seventh to edge out the Stars, 6-5, improving to 3-1 on the season.
