Donald D. Grabner

April 24, 2013

    Donald David Grabner, 90, of Monroeville, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at his residence.
    Don was born on Friday, May 5, 1922, in Monroeville, to the late Grover C. and Leona (Leonard) Grabner.
    He married Mary Kathryn Beauchot on July 28, 1945, in Fredericksburg, Va.; she passed away December 15, 2011.

Loren U. Sprunger

    Loren U. Sprunger, 84, Berne, died Monday at Swiss Village.
    Among survivors are two daughters, Wanda (Steven) Roush of Indianapolis and Patti (Jeff) Kiel of Raleigh, N.C., and a son, Fred Sprunger of Berne.
    Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Saturday and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Sunday at Swiss Village. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Swiss Village.
    Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, rural Decatur.

Woodlan posts wins against AC despite soggy fields

    MONROE—It was gloom and doom for the Jets on their home field Tuesday night as Adams Central suffered their first loss of the season hosting the Woodlan Warriors in a losing battle, 11-1.
    The Warriors avenged a six-inning loss to the Jets two weeks back amidst the rainy conditions when AC won by the same score on Woodlan's field.

Monument pool may return

    County Historian Louise Wolpert and Maintenance Head Dave Meyer came before the county commissioners on Monday to give a report and make a request on behalf of the Peace Memorial Committee.
    Wolpert reported that the Peace Memorial by the courthouse might well be the first of its kind, and is approaching its 100th anniversary, in October. She said that the committee believes this deserves to be celebrated.

Meeting spotlight on ex-bank building

    Decatur's second Town Hall meeting, led by Mayor John Schultz and the city council, was pretty quiet Tuesday night. Approximately 20 people were in attendance.
    The mayor began the discussion by asking for ideas on what they would like to see for the old bank building the city bought from the hospital.

Crone now faces new charges

April 24, 2013

    Wade R. Crone, 26, in jail here since early March, was served a warrant with new charges on Monday.
    Crone was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and visiting a common nuisance.
    The 26-year-old who had been residing on W. Madison St., already was facing charges of criminal confinement and battery resulting in bodily injury.
